I looked at that as we passed by a couple of weeks ago and wondered who she belongs to, and whether or not anyone hopes to restore her one day.
On a different but similar subject...in the next month or so, the 'rebuilt' PS Medway Queen will arrive at her new home just downstream of that paddle tug, she will be kept in the inlet strangely called Gillingham Pier.
Seen various press reports about how Medway Queen has been 'repaired', but in truth she has a brand new hull (the first fully-riveted hull built in UK for umpteen years) built in Bristol, and various old bits like the engine repaired and installed. She won't be viable as a working ship when she returns, there will still be a lot to do. Info at www.medwayqueen.co.uk.
Used to have an annual return trip on her from Herne Bay to Southend when I was a kid...spent the entire trip watching the engine. Magic.
It's about 100 metres from my mooring, reckon its only in Chatham Maritime for estate agents and in Gillingham for people that want to find it.
Many years ago going a job in Wandsworth (our builders drawings/client stated the road was in Wimbledon....) our plumber arrived late one day was told off by the client.
His reply - 'Well I've been driving round f 'ing Wimbledon trying to find your house!' - still makes me chuckle!
