Another boring post

With the warm water we enjoy down here, when we want to check the undergear we just go for a swim...

You might want to give it a couple of months. Even the Med cools down over winter /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Absolutely.
Though 15 degrees is almost double than 8, I reckon!... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
(Southern Sardinia vs. the Solent at the moment)

I only step in the water if it is 25deg +. If I wanted to swim in water at 15deg, I can do that in the English Channel in August /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yup, 15 deg ain't very comfortable I must admit.
But give me 20 or so, with a glass (or three) of Ardbeg ready when the swim is over, and I'm willing to jump.
Much better than sitting in front of a PC, anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Depends if there's any jellyfish in the water /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are there many of them in Spanish waters?
I've only seen one last year, and very small either, not worrying at all.

Brilliant - and that includes the weather. Isn't it nice to find a yard that attempts to give VFM, instead of just taking your money! The A-Glaze works wonders and keeps working too! I was doubtful re the claim about two years, but mine is on its second season and the boat washes clean with a hose.

Here's wishing you a great season!

The Balearics have been infested with them in recent years, particularly early in the season eg May/June. So much so that swimming is impossible on some days. The authorities are worried about it affecting the tourist trade. Apparently the reason is that the jellfishes' natural predator, turtles, have been declining recently due to so many being caught in fishing nets. The eco-mentalists blame climate change of course

A Glaze

I put it on the Sealine a few years ago.
I wanted to stop the build up of soot from the T51's exhausts -dirty old D12s and something about Sealine's design made the whole of the back of the boat sooty.
It didnt stop the soot but it made it a hell of a lot easier to clean off. The Princess doesnt suffer from this at all.
The first year on the Sealine, it was difficult to apply. From then on it was much easier. I get it from Creative Resins.
See here http://www.marineaglaze.com/home.asp

I phoned them recently and they said that it would be relative easy putting it onto a new boat. IMO it isnt fantastic but I do believe that it protects the surfaces from UV etc. It would be a must IMO if you have coloured hulls - I believe that it can put back the shine from that scuffed look.

Anyway - new boat so I thought I'd use it again - it should make it much easier to wash off/clean.

Most people are put of by the cost of applying. Actually, it isnt that expensive, especially if you do it yourslf. There seem to be lots of contractors out here that see A Glaze as a rip off project. The materials for the whole of JW came to less than £300 which I thing is well worth it. Two of us were able to prepare and apply it in a couple of days and JW is a relatively large boat.

Anyone thinking of doing it - I say go for it. It isnt magic -nothing in this world is anyway.

Anyway - all done here in Spain now and tomorrow I set off back to Santander for the crossing/ferry home. Had a great day - rain was forecast but, instead, we had brilliant sunshine so I took the opportunity of making up a complete set of fixed mooring lines - sitting in the sun.

Cant wait to get bck here in just over a couple of weeks for our next exploit.

There you go Roger - As MapisM says

A job for you???

Roger that, I'll bring my Speedo's and goggles! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Btw. I hope your new mooring lines have soft eyes... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Will ask them next time I'll be there, asking also if they apply the same stuff on planing boats.

[/ QUOTE ]Here we are.
If anyone is interested, Even Extreme is what they used for the hull, and Velox Plus for the u/w gear.
And yes, they use the same stuff also for fast boats, with equally good results as far as I could see in a couple of examples (Bertram and Itama).

Blimey, 1.5k nm in one month?!?
Lucky git, I wish I had time to cruise that much in a whole season...!
Re. jury still out, fwiw it's already an A from my part.
Mind, I just realized I'm using it since two seasons now, 'cause I never bothered to ask my yard before this thread.
But as I told previously, I NEVER had to clean the u/w gear throughout the season.
And the paint was still nicely in place after 8 months.
But my boat is very slow, and I managed to use her for just a hundred hours or so.
Otoh, I saw the other two boats I mentioned when they were lifted out last year, and they were in pretty much similar conditions (though I have no idea about how they were used). No pics, sorry.
Oh, and since Deleted User asked: 150 Eur for 2 props/shafts/rudders and also a couple of rather large flaps.

I, actually have a small problem.
A day before launching, I noticed that the port trim tab was starting to peel. I immediatly checked everything else and all was very sound. I think I must have had some contamination on the tab - oily surface or something. I didnt try to fix it do too much because the instructions specifically say that it must be left for 24 hours before launching and I didnt want to put off the launch. So, in fact this tab will be a good reference and as long as the rest stays on, I can compare it with the areas that HAVE stuck well.
Even though I have had this little problem, I still have a good feeling about the treatment. In actual fact, this failure might turn out to be a "blessing in disguise" because if the treatmant DOES work, it will be a good warning to others that it DOES have to be applied properly.

As I say - we'll see.

I did phone Marlin and spoke to Matteo who, after one reminder, agreed to send me a free sample but not sure it's going to be here for my lift out next week. Apparently though, Velox Plus is now available thru dealers in Barcelona and Majorca
V interested in your results but I'm not sure 1500nm in 2 months is going to be the same kind of test as leaving the boat unused for 6 months. It will certainly test the bonding properties of the product /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You might be interested to know that - as I'm told - a proper cleaning and priming of all metal surfaces to be treated is crucial for the final result.
On a side note, why do you say 1500 in TWO months? By mid of may sounds more like one in my calendar... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hey stop it answering this post and placing it on top of the list again and again, and showing the pictures of this beautifull boat that I don't own, in front of my eyes each time,

good post though, /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
enjoy it !
