Annoying marina design mistakes

My only suggestion around marina design is that it would be nice if they considered new visitors unfamiliar with the layout when doing the numbering. Having pontoon "A" as the first one you come to and berth "1" nearest the entrance would make things a whole lot easier when it comes to trying to find your allocated berth. I've given up trying now and just moor in the first space I can get into and then walk around to find where they want me before trying to manoeuvre a 19' wide trimaran around the maze.

I got so lost in Dun Laoghaire marina once that they sent out the marina workboat to rescue me and guide me to my allocated berth.

Yes, I never understood that. How do they expect people to hold on all night? You arrive back from the Mish just in time for the last pint of heavy to be wanting an exit and the bogs shut! I am sure it affects water quality in the harbour.

Shore gates that seem to take an age to open and then shut therefore partly defeating thier intended purpose of keeping non berth holders out

Those showers that have the button that pops out and turns the water off after five seconds are equally attractive......

Put one of those releasable cable-ties in your wash-bag? Won't work everywhere, if the plumbing is buried in the wall with just the button protruding, but if the pipe is surface mounted you can generally strap the button down and keep the water on.

I believe there was once a directive "Save water, shower with a friend" - saving money too makes a double (triple?) bonus...

Its got to be Ring type cleats rather than cow horn types with two legs so that you can easily tie off on.

They use them is St Peter Port and they are a pain in the bum.

The other bane in a Visitors marina is too few cleats full stop, especially on long runs of pontoons where various sizes of boats will need to moor.

I think you missed my point...... I'm not even remotely interested in finding an alternative to holding it in for someone.....

I want to be able to secure my boat by tying the mid ships cleat the mid cleat on the finger but in 19/20 cases if I do the bow will hit the pontoon. Marinas need to move the mid cleat about two feet outward.
