Since moving the boat, I've been following the wind forecasts on Windfinder and so far this year our bit of the coast seems to have been very sheltered. Is this a year round phenomenon as I know Deleted User reported the Denia area to be windy in the summer.

It’s bound to be fab weather from next Thursday onwards as I fly back home for a few days. Much windier today, but it’s offshore. Hopefully I’ll get out again a few more times in the next few days, this is the best spell of weather since we came back at the beginning of October. This autumn has been much more unsettled than previous years, as was this spring. Our favourite little sandy beach just opposite the small island between Altea and Benidorm has disappeared again. Very disappointing.

I also use Windfinder pro and have found it to be extremely accurate , particularly on the wave heights, which is important when you’re in a small boat like ours! When are you planning on flying out next?

In Mallorca there is often a decent breeze in the summer due to - i assume - thermal activity.

In the winter it tends to be pretty binary. It is either very windy ( storm etc) or sunny and totally calm - which I assume to be lack of thermal activity. When I say calm I was there there a few weeks ago it it was literally like a mill pond, and this out of season is quite common - helped by lack of wake as well I suspect - but of course "random" as there could be rain or sun in equal measure.

On queue, longjohnsilver has very obligingly checked the semi-derelict marina out (more pics on my Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/CostaBlancaBoating/). Surprised to see a few boats remain, not sure I'd fancy that with such a low sea wall and no staff to watch the boats.

Most of the boats still afloat bear the scars of either breaking free or or being hit by another boat.

A lovely spot in calm weather but I wouldn’t want to be there in a strong NE wind.
 
And in a response to an earlier post, Calpe Marina has floating pontoons, as does Altea, although the larger boats moor up to concrete jetties.
 
Well the good ship Andiamo has survived the winter without too many mishaps. Interestingly, the Micron 350 antifoul applied in the Autumn is totally free of fouling and even after six months of being stationery in the water there was no loss of performance. Even the props were clean. Note that this may be partially due to the exceptionally clean (no commercial / fishing boats) and deep water (4.8m) in the marina. Roll on the summer!
 
I dont get much fouling on my boat even when left and not moved all winter, or for extended periods over the summer. I've mentioned it before on here and I dont think people believed me.

I havent a clue what antifoul is used , I just ask them to use whatever works in the area where I keep the boat. I assume that some areas/marinas are better/worse for fouling than others.

LOL, didn't mean to raise anyone's hopes that I've found the silver bullet for solving prop fouling! Velox was applied in October before our 120 mile run down the coast. I lost about 20% of it on the first run leaving 80% coverage over the winter. On the blast round the bay that we made this week I think I lost another 20-30% leaving nice shiny stainless steel patches underneath. I imagine that I'll have very little A/F on the props after a few more days use.

Pete,
be aware that this is a very good result !
if I understand this correctly, after 6 months, mostly without moving, your props still don't have much growth on them,
and you can start your summer season without any major prop fouling / neither any prop scrubbing,
which sounds perfect !?

That's exactly what I'm saying (actually no use whatsoever from Nov to May).

I think that with a little wire wool (beach mode) and regular use I should be able to keep them entirely free of fouling.

it's not overly surprising, I've always found the fouling during the winter months to be absolutely minimal. As soon as the water warms it will build aggressively unless the boat is frequently used .
