Andiamo - Let's Go!

Well we're a few days into our cruise. Logged around 80 miles yesterday from SCM to Valencia. Another 45 today from Valencia to Denia (which we are quite taken with). Final run down to Altea tomorrow. Sea's a bit lumpier than I would have liked but still planable. Boat running good, nothing fallen off yet but sticking in gear at tickover I think which is making berthing challenging. Wife not impressed with lazy lines so muggins has to pull them up (must buy gloves)!

Warm and sunny as I write and cracking open a cold one.

Have you been flooded Pete? We hear Majorca is now under water

PS thanks to Hurricane who I am reporting into to make sure we arrive safely. I asked if he knew what to do if we didn't arrive at our destination. Made me laugh when he said he would post a message on the Forum to see if anybody has seen a blue Fairline somewhere between Sant Carles and Altea!

Which marina in Altea? If the main port I will also hopefully be out in our small boat, a Cap Camarat. Will look out for you.
PS great restaurant directly opposite on the main road, Sabor, our favourite.

On the harbowall in Denis you’ll see Republica, another favourite restaurant of ours.

We were there sheltering last week for a couple of days - I have already told Pete about the Republic.

Note - Not the Republic Bar - The restaurant is the place to head for.
The Chateaubriand and the Tasting Menu are the ones to order.

Pete isn't alone - we have some yachtie friends from SC who are currently sheltering there at the moment.
There are worse places to be "holed up"!!!

Yes definitely the restaurant. Didn’t know there was also a bar .

IIRC this all assumed that you were going to turn right out of SC - not left!!

pete - What's this you mention about out-drive sticking in gear at tickover? That sounds frightening and is a nightmare situation I always think about when i'm coming alongside a pier.

How do you get it out of gear? And what's the issue, do you know??

In Denia tonight. Moving to Greenwich for the winter tomorrow weather permitting.

Well I’m planning on going out on our 15 footer tomorrow so I guess you should be fine in your 40 footer! Greenwich is a lovely marina with plenty of bars and restaurants. You should enjoy it there, only downside is that it’s a fair treck to get into Altea town.

Puerto Blanco is indeed a very nice restaurant.
it would be intersting for Pete, to find out if he can park the boat in that small fishermans port, "puerto Blanco"
for visiting the restaurant.

from the restaurant you look over that port

Bart, sadly the port has been closed for a couple of years and has become derelict and is all fenced off at the moment, see http://calpdigital.es/art/4394/calp...l-de-puertos-sobre-el-estado-de-puerto-blanco. Hopefully it'll be restored at some point in the future.

The restaurant however is still open and a cheap taxi ride for us.

ok I' wasn't aware of that, its some years ago I was there.

In Calpe, I can recommand restaurant "El Bodegon"
good memory's, at that,
I was there for the first time 38 years ago, and some more visits since then.
at that time, my girlfriend was with me, and she's still my wife
my mum was there this year in spring,
she told me its still the same owner !

Calpe and Altea, the whole region is nice, especially the weather, enjoy !

Thanks for the recommendation Bart, I will try it out sometime soon. Many great restaurants in Altea, but have not had much success so far in Calpe.

We spent a few hours on our small boat in Altea bay today, lovely weather and even had sight of Petes boat in Mascarat!
