Anchoring in Ibiza town, inside harbour wall?

In July I'm spending a week cruising around Ibiza and can't seem to find out whether boats are allowed to anchor inside the harbour wall. Three or four years ago I used to do it regularly (out of the way of the commercial quay to the south!) to beat the crazy berthing prices at Botafoch etc, but I seem to recall reading that anchoring is no longer allowed. Does anyone know either way for sure??

But you can anchor round the corner, to starboard, then tuck in by the cliff. Safe over there and an easy dinghy ride into town.

Based from the UK, try to get away on a boat for a
www.sailblogs.com
We have anchored right alongside the 'no anchoring' buoys and rebuffed the lady police person on the harbour masters boat, with the 'we will move immediately the skipper gets back aboard'. Got away with it (along with usually a dozen other boats) several times, but that was back in 2006/7.

But we then found that by developing a relationship ( by phone ) with the guys at the Yacht Club in Ibiza, we could get a mooring alongside. Once we'd spoken a few times questioning costs, availability, and we were on chatty terms, they'd tend to tell us to call dead on 2 pm. We'd also always took time to share a beer with the marineros. Thereafter we always got a spot even with short notice and in August! Just might be worth trying that.

Good luck
John

When we were last in Ibiza a couple of years ago there were signs on the breakwater prohibiting anchoring and we did hear stories from locals to the effect that a few transgressors had been heavily fined but how true that is, I don't know. Yes the marinas in Ibiza Town are outrageously expensive in season

Summer before last, I sent SWMBO in to develop a relationship whilst I stayed with the boat.
Got nowhere - 400 euros they wanted and that was mid June.

Great, thanks for those top tips! Will probably try anchoring next door in Talamanca and like the sound of how Swagman 'lubricated' the marinero's - might give that a go too!!
One thing to bear in mind with Talamanca, is that the bay looks like a great place to anchor, but it is full of reefs, so be careful.

Thanks for that lovezoo - having had a look on Google Earth yesterday I did wonder whether it was a bit rocky! Maybe better off round the corner to the south if the weather's settled.
Its all a bit exposed really there for a comfortable anchorage. You do get the occasional yachtie who anchors off Playa den Bossa, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

There are yachts anchored in Talamanca bay, you just have to be careful and not steam straight in. Perhaps go and have a look first in the tender.

Wow, lucky you rib! Sounds great....am flying down to Mallorca for a couple of days tomorrow but think I'll have to wait until the summer before dropping the hook in Ibiza. Shame though, weather's looking bright and quite settled Tues/Weds. Unlike here!!

This time of year they're all about as cheap as they'll ever be. Any of the marina's in Palma ought to do you a very cheap deal and Palma is, I think, one of the nicest cities in the world! Head up to the old town above the cathedral (and pop your nose into the cathedral itself, huge and v impressive).

Anchorages worth overnighting (going clockwise);
- St Elm (near Andraitx)
- Soller
- Sa Calobra (beautiful, if weather settled!)
- One or two round to Pollenca
- Pollenca itself ok, might get a cheap berth, lots of cheap bars + restaurants!
- I'd say give Alcudia a miss
- From south of Alcudia bay there are many fab anchorages on the south east coast
- Porto Colom - great little fishing town, big protected bay, a few long term seafarers on buoys etc
- Porto Petro - pretty, protected and 'fairly' unspoilt
- Sa Rapita/Es trenc - biggest beach in Mallorca, protected from N
- Cabrera Islands - must visit, great hike up to lighthouse, need to book a buoy, get details when you arrive in Palma

...and many more, of course!!

Hope you have a good time!
