Thanks for your input...

I think I'll go for an alloy Spade with a mixed chain and rope rode. [ I have a chum.]

Now the problem of finding a stockist.....

My boat is a 30 tonne 51 footer, and a 35Kg is way over what we use!

As a kedge I use a Fortress + chain + chum + warp. As the boat is alloy, I was keen to avoid steel, but have always found it to hold. Last summer we anchored in 50 metres of water off the N Brittany coast in up to 7 knots of tide (no wind admittedly), and the anchor held just fine.

The fact that you can break it down for stowage is a real plus... we also cary a galvanised danforth in dedicated chocks in the lazarette (to ensure no contact with the hull), but it so much heavier and more difficult to etract that it has never been used yet.
