An alternative to a windscreen?

My sprayhood needs replacing and I was inspired by the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=pbo&Number=584137&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post584137> recent thread </A> which discussed windscreens and sprayhoods.
I asked the local sprayhood maker about a windscreen and they suggested as a much cheaper alternative using "Strataglass" in place of the clear material in a conventional sprayhood. Strataglass seems to be a much thicker version of the normal see-through material giving a much clearer view.
Does anyone know anything about this material? Will it give good visibility? Will it last as long as the sprayhood? It seems likely to add about £100 to the cost of the sprayhood, plainly less expensive than a windscreen and more flexible.
Any experience of this or alternative suggestions will be gratefully received.

Strataglass...

Strataglass is very common in the US - might be worth posting a question on the Cruising World forum.

Whilst nothing beats a glass windscreen, it seems that Strataglass would be a sound alternative to ordinary vinyl. The downsides are that you may need to take special care when folding it and cleaning it. Strataglass is available in various thicknesses; many US canvas suppliers use the 40thou thickness.
