Not giving away the results, but what drama in both races. Great entertainment. And I speak as a non sailor. Can't wait for the next days racing.

Amazing, just when we thought the AC was turning into a no-passing parade it opened up.

And LR isn‘t quite as dominant in the light as we thought. And vice versa

And dogfighting isn’t past tense.

Wow!! is the right word :)

Prob all over tonight though :(

If it had been conventional boats the Italians could/would have tacked to cover NZ's tack but having just tacked I suspect the stored energy level was too low. What time lag is required between tacks and still maintain sail control? Glad I'm not a grinder!

I'm not sure that it was a stored energy problem. LR would have lost too much distance in tacking back. I think they lost the race moments beforehand by taking too early after the cross - it left TNZ room to tack out of what could have been a good loose cover. With hindsight, tacking back and accepting the loss would have been a better option than carrying on, but I don't think they knew that the left had less breeze and that it would make such a big difference.

If that is the instance I am thinking of I think it was too close for LR to do that. They had a slender lead but had they tacked TNZ would have sailed past them during the tack and effectively taken the lead.

The fact is that today TNZ was the faster boat and there is only so much LR could do to keep them behind them.

Race 9. The best race of the entire thing so far.
Yes, great race, I lost count of the number of times the lead changed hands. A pity the second race was cancelled, another early morning alarm call!

Whoever is responsible for the YouTube coverage and graphics deserves huge congratulations, it’s been a brilliant spectacle whilst keeping us informed all the way through.

I agree the tv coverage is awesome but I am getting really pissed off with the inane twittering of the two main commentators. Shirley Roberston is good, but I really want to hear what the teams are saying to each other in the intense moments

BTW. Is Auckland the mobo capital of the Antipodes ?

Some serious Mumm shifting going on thereabouts .
:)
Yep, and the marinas were looking quite empty over the weekend. Harbour authority annoyed the mobo drivers by enforcing a 5kt speed limit all the way up the harbour on completion of the racing :ROFLMAO:

Is sailing out of Aukland as stunning as it looks from the aerial shots ?! Topography looks amazing...

Yes, and you're only seeing a small part of the cruising waters around here. The number of inlets and islands, and the shelter provided by Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula, make this one of the best sailing areas in the world.

PS - I used to live on the Yealm at Newton Ferrers so I can directly compare! The pubs around here are nowhere near or plentiful
