Amercian boat trailer Conversions

American trailer on UK roads.

lol, lets put it like this american trailers are not braked in any way, they are jst sales room trolleys. totally illegal in europe. if you want to tow your boat and let it push you and your car/jeep etc into an insurance nightmare accident go for it.

I operate an American Karavan boat trailer that comfortably carries my 16 foot boat on, which has hydraulic brakes on which I believe to be legal in the UK! The simple reason I purchased the trailer was it's design simplicity- durable, robust and long lasting with a fully galvanised construction, a swing away jockey wheel/front jack, heavy duty 205/75-14 tires on again, galvanised wheels, fully waterproofed wheel bearings and not to mention being well lit at night with all (fully waterproof!) LED lights being permanently attached to the trailer and not on a dimly lit Euro trailer board I see too often swinging behind the trailers on which they are supposed to protect against potential collision! The trailer I had before my Karavan trailer was a European design which after being 'dipped' to launch and retrieve my boat, ended up rusting all of it's componentry to the point that the brakes were non operable and so I had to get rid of it!!!
My American trailer weighs no more than my last trailer and feels a whole lot more stable on the motorways with crosswinds. As for the 2 inch coupling head, I've had no problems with towing with my 50mm ball as there is only 0.8mm difference and if it did, the coupling lock would take up the slack anyway!!! The only real concern I had with the trailer was it's width was in excess of the 2.3 metre allowable on British roads, but having read recently that this was increased to 2.55 metres.
