Amazing day out leopard-spotting

ooh ooh, I went to the boat being built today, just got back. It was fab. Jfm came too. We went from stansted this morning (tues) and a car picked us up which was the salesbod all the way from cannes, Pisa is like stockport, The boatyard is a huge huge building with a load of boats being made and I loved every minute. And all the bits were lovely, and just right, apart from one or two bits whih I asked if could be changed and they changed them right that minute, or started on it. Then jfm asked the complicated stuff about radar and lectronics, and we all chatted about red leather and chrome and black leather and silver dashboard bit which will be stunning, and everybody hangs on every word, and offers solutions, and then they listen to jfm while I gawp at other things, and then and then we went to Viareggio for lunch.

Viareggio was fabulous too, with the main sqaure smashed down and full of walloping great ugly buildings full of huge boats being built, Benetti and Perini Navi. Sheds and scaffolding in sidestreets say "Maiora" or San Lorenzo or sucklike. There are gardens turned over to 30metre and 40metre grp hulls. We saw a Mabngusta 108 being built (well two actually) and went to a restaurant and the sales director of leapard was there with all his mates, they nodded, we sat down, he recommended things, he nodded again like Don Corleone and said Prego waved us out, and we left not even having to ask if he would pay. Much better than a powerpoint demo I reckon.

Then back to the leopard boatyard in Pisa 15 minutes back up the road, more chat about boat, and a look around a 27metre spalttered inside with high-gloss burr walnut, rather like a lunatic 50's stereogram turned inside out, utterly and amazingly horrid.

But anyway the boat was fab and blah blah, and there'll be some other new complicated things with special wood, and ooh ooh the seats go up and down and there's loads of fridges, andeven the standard fridge they've taken all the shelves out and made lovely little teak fiddles and put all the shelves back.

Oh and we saw the leaning tower of Pisa, bit ordinary, gotta be done, just like the pics, it was raining and dark. But everything else was fabuolous, and billion times better than a s-seeker or f'line factory who don't give a monkeys and haven't got a clue by comparison. And then I went home and nothing at all went wrong in the whole day, even the speeding home was fine, and it was all dreamily fab, and now I can't wait.

Phew. Jfm will have more sensible analysis, and mebbe pictures too!

Re: Kids in a candy store - Pics

Fab stuff in Pisa/Vaireggio. Leopard factory stunning. 6 boats being built, all massive, matts' looking fabulous. Loads of Italian boat builders running round, massive knowledge on their part on details of boat. Lightening service: Matts says microwave too high....three blokes immediately, and mean there and then, rework kitchen cabinet and lower it. Matts says "there's space there for a laundry box.....we go to lunch and two hours later laundry box opening is cut and nearly all sorted. So I thort I'd try my hand..."the grain on these 2 bits of wood doesn't match and it's in pole position" I sed....a few mumbles "eese a natural product...guv" then they say wood will be changed. On a roll now, so start big friendly 6-people-3-languages-none -in-common debate on dashboard leather etc etc.....

Then visit to massive Mangusta factory, two 108s being built, engines the size of caravans ready to be craned in, KaMeWa waterjets the size of mini metros just lying around. Fabulous, so much better than any boat show.

More details later, it's late, but here are a few pics. www.geocities.com/johnfmaxey/Leopard.html

Graham W or others, is it poss to put a few 10-15 second .mov files on Geocities or any web hoster? If not I can email these.

Sounds like a great day out - and a lesson for the UK builders maybe in how to treat buyers? Liked the pictures - can't wait for the movies.

Re: Git

accepted, mumble sorry. But its dead difficult to say anything about it (even on a boat forum) without being extremely open to same or similar! I am caught in the no man's land of weediesty big boat yet humungously stuipd normal boat with no mates. So we'll have to have a party...

Did someone say party ?

All boats - small, big, humungous - should be shared with friends (not sure about relatives), that's 99% of the fun of having one. I love parties and get togethers on a boat, albeit on a small viking on the river or on Leander in the med (...still waiting for that invite though).

Re: Byron\'s neighbour

Leander G owner erm whassisname donald gosling lives on the thames. in summer he goes to Golfe Juan a lot for cup of tea in the bay. If byron can't sort summink, we cd perhaps try the old ram him with you on board and you faint a bit, then wake quickly and somehow start an interesting convesartion about the Thames. Or car parks perhaps. Good idea eh?

Re: Byron\'s neighbour

Good thinking batman. Mr B (lucky sod) spent many years crewing on luxury yachts in the med and W.I. and he's been on Brave Goose, which I think was one of DG's earlier yachts (saw it on an episode of The Saint once).

Re: mmm Lack of knowldege

Latter I'm afraid. I had no idea. Homer hardly ever does sarcasm.

Anyway so a Leander is actually a massive bird Pauline?

Now the comma key has busted...
