Am I the only person out there who loves Trader?????

Gludy, I think the depreciation on your boat will run deeper and longer that you might even suspect. Even if you do manage to fix all the problems at your expense and you have a good boat at the end, becuase you had the custom blue hulled boat which everyone in the industry will know is a one of a kind, your boat will always be treated with caution or even a big bargpole becasue it is "the blue hulled" Trader. You might want to consider that in any claim you make in future.
 
That is an intersting point becauew the only way i could get a response was to go public. So the question becomes, if I go public is that a self inflicted wound? Well to argue that you would have to assume that I would lie to a future buyer, which i would not. You would also have to assume that the truth about the boat discovered by expert examination and surveys could be hidden from a prospective purchaser, which it could not ...... its an interesting legal point never the less.

I knew that I was going to damage myself right from the outset. I do not know the extent of that but I knew that damage there would be. The truth is damaging because the truth is that Tarquin Trader sold me a boat with a multitude of crap and major problems and some 11 months alter were still ignoring my fault list which included such minor things as a new keel.

Frankly, to hell with it, I simply want justice and I simply want my boat fixed so that it can be fully used for boating which is what I bought it for. I want Tarquin to be accountable for the manner in which they have treated me and I do not want to see what has happned to me happen to anyone else. Thats all I want and if that is too much to ask - I am sorry.

Paul - no its not too much to ask and I admire your bravery and integrity. Having read a bit further back into the thread, I can't imagine what planet Tarquin are on with this commercial madness. I think I would have been driven to resort to the same tactics as yourself and I sincerley hope you get a good result.

Sorry my comment wan't clear. I meant that you might want to factor in the extra blue hull depreciation in any future cost claim against Tarquin, not that yuou should restrict the claims you are making in public......not a dig at you at all.

No, I did not take it that way and certainly not as a dig against me.

Yes the blue hull makes it a very nice looking Trader but the cost was very high and no doubt it will depraite fast on that aspect as well as making it unique and being that famous Ocean Deep.

Tony Chappell has promised to change dealt with the fault list by early this coming week, so there will hopefully be some movement this will. It will be posted on the Ocean Deep Forum.

The forum membership system should now be working OK.
 
fwiw, i don't think you are doing your boat value too much damage (nearly said yourself - another issue!)

The reason being that you are partic and picky - so one way or another you will have a good boat.

Under the circumstances I wd let bits of filler under stairs slide - which illustrats the point.
 
actually Gludy is way less picky than I am - which praps makes me really picky??

but nonetheless he has let many things slide that I pointed out and wouldn't have ignored myself.

I recognise (cos I had it) G's incredibly infuriating position of having a lessthan happy time with new boat when the whole idea was the exact opposite. I spose i wdn't go bonkers at *one* issue but taken all together one does feel taken for a mug by someone who preyed and profited on your hope to have a fab new boat and think "why should i lower my standards to below what even they promised?"

Pickiness is good. It's only by sayig "not good enough" to yourself and others that the world moves forwards.

I really do not think you were picky. You uncovered some amazingly important things and I cannot remember one thing that you were unreasonable about.

I let things slide because I wanted to balance things to ensure that Trader did as much fixing as possible as soon as possible. I always reserved my position with them. For example when they first told us the boat was ready to take and we found that the engine anodes had gone and the gearbox oil was not even showing on the dipstick - I wrote a letter pointing out their negligence asked for an oil test and reserved my position on a full engine/gearbox test. So in effect one of the issues I am dealing with now - dates directly back to that April day.

The problem was and is that the actual story is so incredible that it is hard for anyone who has not witnessed it to accept as truthful. One of the reasons all the correspondence is still being published on the Ocean Deep Saga web forum is to demonstrate how even today, trader, have not answered the most direct and simple of questions.

I do not want Trader boats bashed as such - I chose one and simply want it fixed as well as compensation for the lack of use and direct expenses that I was forced to incur. It looks like these may have to be fought £ by £ according to the latest reaction ........

The great thing is that the public pressure has worked because I am getting responses and this is why I am keen to keep publishing the unedited mail from both sides so that at least the whole thing can be simplified.

Tarquin has an ideal opportunity to openly deal with the issues arising from Ocean Deep and the last 11 months. It had an opportunity to make something out of it and rescue that situation – judging by the pettiness of the latest email from Tony Chappell published on the Ocean deep Forum, INHO it has still not smelt that coffee. I wish it would.

TCM – I think the public actions I have been forced to take to get a response from Tarquin have damaged the value of my boat. I am simply past caring about that. The whole joy of buying the boat was totally destroyed by Tarquin and the policies of Tony Chappell. The first year of ownership has just been one long living in hell trying to get things sorted with a company that would not answer the fault list week after week, month after month. I was copying the emails to my lawyer and others so a group of people observed the incredible frustration of trying to even get an answer. I think that the cost of that incredibly poor service towards me has already cost Tarquin dearly, even before this public airing of the issue. I have had a number of people stop in their tracks in the process leading towards the purchase of a Trader from, Emsworth simply because of the facts of my story.
 
I was going to write something similar to tcm, geesh I hate agreeing with him!

If I had the money I would buy her from you if I was a) looking for a poofy gin palace, b) followed this saga, and c) know how picky perfic utterly intolerable (see any red diesel thread ever started) you can be.

When the blue hulled trader ever comes on the market, you can at least be sure any problems have been put right properly. Though, from reading this, I would never buy a new 'un.

Out of interest, did they ever supply new hifi equipment, rather than the factory reworks mentioned in another thread, I am still shocked by that, surely that is as criminal as mock auctions that appear on market stalls around the country.

The Bose Hi-Fi story facts are:-
1. The Bose system did not always work - for example on the 3 DVD set Coast - it would play disc 1, sometimes play disc 2 and never play disc 3 - yet on all other DVD players these all played OK.
2. Andy Ball when looking at rudder problems and leaks in the stern happened to turn and look at the back of the Bose woofer to see it stamped factory re-furbished.
3. At this stage, I was a bit silly because I assumed that Trader had been tricked into it and Taiwan had fitted factory refurbished models instead of new ones so I told them they had been fiddled!
4. They came back as bold as brass - all this is in writing, even in a snail mail on their letterhead, and stated they had bought in a batch of these for boats directly from the Bose Factory Store Outlet but not to worry as they were guaranteed!
5. I reported to them that I believed this to be against the law - they just ignored that.
6. They replaced mine with a new one and made the point that they had to go and buy one specially for me! It was as if I was being a bit awkward etc. At no time did they apologise and they were happy to supply other new boats with factory refurbished units. – this is their policy and they see nothing wrong with supplying factory refurbished units to new boats.

The above are the facts. Andy Ball witnessed a lot of it. He was the one who uncovered it.
If Keith or anyone wants to see their letter with all this on, I can fax it.

The amazing thing is that they argued on this one that as long as the guarantee was in place it made no difference to the boat owner! I had to fight to get a new one. They replaced the faulty one with another factory refurbished unit but I made them replace that with a new one.

As I say – Tony Chappell and I live on different planets!

I see nothing wrong with factory refurb units fitted to new boats - as long as that is what has been sold to the customer... and usually at a good discounted price ... were you charged top notch for these seconds?
 
Yes I was charged very top notch and and had to uncover the fact that they were factory refurbished. Had I known, I would never have accepted it. I do not pay for as new plus a marine style price to be supplied with a factory re-furbished unit! imagine - a totally new £1m boat and I would choose a factory refurbished stereo? I would have to be mad.

Trader do not advertise their boats costing many hundreds of thousands of pounds with a note to say PS we supply factory refurbished units so that we can save money but we charge you absolute top whack plus for it and do not tell you before you buy or even after you buy! We let you discover it when you are investigating the hundreds of problems we will deliver your boat with - a sort of boating treasure hunt!

Customer have to enter the stern of the boat through the back of a cupboard, then whilst inside turn and look to see the refurbished sticker. It was Andy Ball who found it just like that!

Its just like ford fitting factory refurb stereo units to its new cars whilst charging full price for them.

it shows an incredible, penny pinching attitude of mind.
 
No you are not the only person who loves a Trader, but you may be one of a very few that have anything good to say about Tarquin and Co.
I have a Trader44 which is a lovely boat but have had great disappointment with the service from their boat yard. I have my own story to tell --soon.
