Am I missing something with the SSR

Hello all, I posted a couple of months ago asking about where best to register a new (old boat). It has just been de-registered in Finland and I was going to put it on the SSR. However, unless I am missing something, the SSR requires quite a lot of paperwork- CSR form 2, tonnage survey?

Part III. registration shouldn’t require very much paperwork at all and is quite straightforward. I just needed to give the boat’s details and that was it. Part I is more complicated and proves ownership.

As Mark says, Part III is your friend, provided that you have a UK address.

Registered my boat SSR online from IOM. Very straightforward, got my registration docs through in less than a week.

You can register "QE2" or any other name you like in your name on SSR with no proof of ownership, but you do need a UK address. Recently the online system has been let's say unreliable, and the website is definitely not working properly. If you phone they will give you a form to print out and send in.

Part I is the "real" registry, boat names have to be unique, hence so many "Mary of Little Puddleharbour" names instead of plain "Mary", and you do need to pay for a tonnage survey (which is one with a tape measure and doesn't measure weight) and fairly genuine evidence of ownership. Very few owners now use Part I, unless a really big boat or on a marine mortgage, which is now only offered by banks for really quite expensive boats.

If it is a new SSR registration, such as after a flag change, or change of owner when already on the SSR, then proof of a U.K. address will be asked for. In my experience a utility bill in owner's name was required.
