Well, what would you have done?
On exiting Sunbury lock heading upriver around midday yesterday, I was confronted by numerous skiffs (2 rowers plus cox - must have been at least 20 of 'em) all actually in and effectively blocking the lock cut. In my quiet way I patiently picked my way thru them and even refrained from tooting my tooter. Even when they saw me bearing down on them they did little to get out of the way.
So, this morning I rang the rivertollas at Reading and said quietly but firmly that I did not think they had been behaving with reasonable regard for other river users and they have promised to 'look into it'..
So, am I a Meldrew.....?

No, not at all. We have the same problem on the severn with small sail boats.
I have been touching river bottom on the startboard bank trying to avoid them and
still they tack under my bows. 1 bloke even called me a F**king c**t as he tacked under my bows and capsized. So i think small craft should be just as considerate as large boats. And remember a semi-displacement boat @ 6 knots would sink the lot of them, but i never want it come to that. all i want is pass by as quickly and safely as possible and be out of their way.

Thanks

No way

Nope..

Take it to the highest court in the land and punish em badly. They deserve it and should not be allowed on the B%^& river...and another thiing...

er.....Acshaually I am a bit of a meldrew meself!

I find the best way of dealing with these things. Is to press the auto pilot button and go make a cup of tea. It all seems OK when I come up again.

Nope!

Having recently passed by powerboat level 2, rowers are deemed to be under power, therefore the rules apply to them too!!

In a different circumstance, coming into shoreham marina - we had a fishing boat coming at us. Having been taught port to port passing during the day, we expected him to move. Did he f...! Almost had us against the wall until we had to cut across his bow to get out the way.

We reported him. Turns out we were not the only ones to report him too!!

... I want to be back on the water!

You are a bad tempered miserable Git. Don't you know that they have priority in all matters and are quite entitled to block up the river like so many bits of driftwood after a flood.
Do you seriously think Envag will do anything?

Did the same once, though not proud of it (not much!!) - the bloke gave me much abuse about my wash (non existant - I had actually stopped for him), and then called me a Nat West Banker (or something like that).. I was so mad, I spun the boat around and told him in no uncertain terms that if he wanted to see what wash was actually like, he could have some!! (accompanied by a quick burst of 400HP).

Never seen anything like it - Sir Stephen Redgrave could not have kept up with him - a real sight for sore eyes, arms a blur....but extremely satisfying!

It's a long time ago, but I remember them all being totally selfish and unreasonable.

If you really want to find where all the ar***oles of the world go for recreation try entering Salcombe and going through to the bouys in 'the bag'. Carefully threading my way outside the main channel to avoid a bunch of dinghies who were racing I had to come to a dead stop and slam into reverse so many times that I thought I was going to damage the gearbox. It was three quarters of an hour of sheer terror and during all that time I never got a wave or even an acknowledgement.
In fact having temporarily tied to a bouy to get out of the way I was told by one jolly jack tar that I was the product of a non-married union and that I was a secret part of a ladies anatomy.

BASTARDS - I hate 'em. I'm now doing some germ warfare research to develop a rampant bacteria that devours canvas and kevlar. The can stick their masts up their mizzens,
