Ive seen a couple of boats for sale with Aluminium and Aluminum Alloy hulls. Circa 1964-72. Should I consider these or should I stick to GRP? What should I look out for on an alloy hull?

The craft you are referring to are probably STRIKERS. They were a superb boat with the quality finish of Coronets and Fjiords. Aluminium have some advantages over GRP which is why small runabouts for the hire boat industry use that material. If you like the craft and it stands survey then buy it but bear in mind that the resale value will be lower because people are not as familiar with aluminium as they are with GRP.

Hi Jason. Aluminium boats have only 2 faults, they make a lot noise at rest and if enclosed condensation forms inside making everything wet. Repairs to aluminium can be expensive. On the brighter side they are lighter than GRP in general.
Happy boating………..Old Salt Oz
