all this Black Friday stuff

the retail sector is blind and cynical about this marketing "opportunity".

If you extract £10B from customers NOW, then there will not be £10B in their pockets come the end of December. Cue complaints of recession and downturn from the major marketing groups, appeals to Government for reduction in business rates, yaddah, yaddah.

Spending money is a finitely limited asset.

The trend has not hit Oz yet and it was only yesterday I discovered what it was all about and what is all meant. Seems to bring out some of the worst.

It would be so much easier if we simply had sales 365.

The worst aspect of the whole sorry business is that many of these "Black Friday" deals are actually more expensive than the retailers were recently charging! And people fight over them.

That was the argument made by people who opposed sunday trading...I was one!

But the the reality was that the total retail turnover did go up quite dramatically.

Its fueled i think by the fact that a lot people regard shopping as a leisure activity, the products purchased being a by product...poor demented souls.

I very nearly ordered an Airfix 1:350 ( large ) model Type 45 Destroyer, on offer until tomorrow evening at £20, normally £50, but that's just the sad sort of person I am.

Decided against it in the end for space and earache reasons.

Edit - Oh, sod it I've just ordered one !

Do you consider it a bargain?

Yes I do, models are expensive nowadays and this is a big one, 46 cm long; it gets good reviews among modelmakers too.

So if one likes this sort of thing, £20 instead of £50 would seem as good a bargain as most.

I still fancy HMS Illustrious to the same scale but that's £60.
