Nine hours Lowestoft to Port Solent, stop off for fuel at Dover in the end. Captain and Cabin Boy all tired, safe and well. VHS problems, radar problems, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. Now we can really start planning where to go next. A booze top up probably wouldn't come amiss.

New Jet rib looks good, haven't had a go yet, but HE and the Big One had a potter and thought it was pretty cool.

The new floor in the saloon which lifts in one piece on gas struts is fine for big strong chaps, but I'm not going to be able to lift it to do engine checks on my own, why didn't anyone consider this!!...men hyh, what do you do with them.

New carpet looks nice, but makes rug look tatty. A womens work is never done, decisions, decisions, new one or clean it.

Re: Proper trip, jetribs

Sounds a great trip. Are you going to be based in PS permanently, or just for now?

At weekends, the trick at PS is to get up and get out of that lock BEFORE BREAKFAST. Just nip out to the waiting pontoon before 9, or even before 8.30. Otherwise from 9:30 it can take an hour to queue and get out. Can still walk back to buy brekky at the yacht club. Also, on returning, you can lie a bit and call earlier than the calling point, ahem.

Yarmouth is jolly recommended. Book the George the week before, all french service and fab food, best in the solent imho.

Be very careful with that jetrib. They can be very dangerous. Ask coliholic. But there's a nice air vent underneath.

As for the heavy locker, there are loads of different gas struts, incl ones that power-assist the lifting. Otherwise, use a man to do this, much cheaper. Sort of.

Re: Proper trip, jetribs

Thanks tcm,

HE was bringing the boat back from Brundell, where brooms have been doing some updating mods, and a few fixes.

We've been in PS for years in various positions, yes, we always get up early and off, usually cooking breakfast en-route down porchester lake, wafting bacon butty and tea smells.

On h ot summer returns, waiting for the lock, we have anchored off, get the genny on waft sizzling steak smells, why does everyone get so ratty outside the lock. We open something nice, get the children to start packing up.

Salties in Yarmouth is a favourite with us all, they can handle the children. Had some great nights there, but this forum is not the place to embarrass myself, there may be young ones watching!! We've eaten well at the George of course.
