AliExpress delivery issues.

In the last couple of years Australia has required eBay sellers to include 10% GST (Good and Services Tax) in the total price. I think eBay collects it and pays the Government.

Just did a google on "Ireland VAT on AliExpress sales" and came up with:

16 Sept 2021 — What has changed for AliExpress with the EU VAT reform? ... Prior to July 1, 2021, imported parcels of a value of less than €22 were VAT exempt.

Do I have to pay VAT for AliExpress?

This exemption no longer applies, though, and now online platforms need to charge VAT on all sales. ... Similarly to other marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon, and eBay, AliExpress will collect VAT on: Goods imported from outside of the EU, if the order value is under €150.16 Sept 2021

Has anybody in Ireland bought anything of value from AliExpress and got stung for customs duty or extra VAT?
Before Brexit,it was hit and miss if you were buying from a "Third Country", but then most of our online purchases were from the Single Market, mostly UK. Now, post-Brexit, Customs and Excise scrutinise every parcel coming in to Ireland from Third Countries and charge VAT on everything and Customs Duty where it applies. Additionally, An Post or the courier can charge a handling fee, as your customs agent.
Some international vendors in far-flung Third Countries have contracted with the Customs authorities here in Ireland to make the charges at source and will state that your purchase will be subject to no further charges on importation. Unfortunately many vendors based in our neighbouring island have not seen fit to do so, and many have actually given up selling to Ireland, as they can't get their heads around the paperwork.

Thanks everybody. I buy heaps on line and the majority from Amazon. The only thing that I got charged for was a PL259 plug . cost €2.00 but got an email for €4.50 for vat (already paid ) and their fee. I was hoping to find someone who had actually bought from AliExpress and if it was worth the grief.

It's an EU rule change, described here...

Press corner

The same requirement also applies to external sellers to the UK as the UK signed up to the EU changes prior to Brexit. Our implementation date was different though by a few months. Some organisations like Amazon and ebay have got their act together and do the VAT thing for the sellers. Others haven't.

I think the large suppliers like Banggood and AliExpress will all charge VAT at source to comply with the EU regulations brought in last summer. I bought a mobile phone for delivery to the UK and just paid VAT at source. However the package customs declaration claimed it contained an MP4 player - a technically correct but incomplete description!

Aliexpress should have procedures for not charging VAT on goods which they ar shipping to cutomers outside the UK , However if they do charg VAT then the buyer overseas can reclaim it.

Reclaiming VAT incurred in Great Britain
I don't think Aliexpress are sending stuff from UK to Ireland. In any event, any VAT reclaim per the link is for VAT-registered traders, not consumers.

As the OP posted from Dublin then the reason for this posting was that Aliexpress sent goods to Dublin from the UK.

Bought a few things from ali express and so far not been hit for any extra tax, quite often you can find items that have an option to be shipped from europe so no extra tax,
