I'm in the market for a new sailing coat, for coastal use. Don't need it till early April and seem to remember seeing a few people who bought theirs from Aldi and were pleased with it. As Aldi seem to sell stuff about the same time of year, each year, I'm hoping someone's going to tell me they bought theirs in March.

Anyone have one and care to pass on a recommendation or otherwise?

If not... Any other recommendations for a decent warm coastal coat; largish size, max £150 but the cheaper the better.

Get yourself to TKMax. We both got offshore quality jackets and leggings, me Musto wife Helly, for less than your budget. Takes patience and repeat visits but my wife could bargain shop for England!

I got one from Lidl for spare or for guests a few years ago. I never tried it on until a couple of years ago and it's superb value for money (it was around £25). I don't bother wearing my expensive Gill these days.

On the assumption that Lidl and Aldi products are much the same I wouldn't hesitate to recomend them.

I got a set of Lidl offshore gear - superb value for money. That was about 3 years ago and they haven't repeated the offer - and I've keep my eyes peeled to get a second set

Hi Steve

I bought my oilskins from Aldi when they last sold them must be at least two years ago I think, I sail all year round and they have proved totaly reliable in quality and still going strong and will be hard to beat on price and quality again.

I also will watching for them for sale as I note they are made by 'Crane' in the UK for Aldi and if you look they have been selling various sorts of 'Crane' outdoor gear lately and I will just buy another set without thinking.

Same here, excellent kit (bought 2 :) )

Also look at Tribord from Decathlon (decathlon.co.uk). Mine lasted me 5 years and is still going strong 3 years on with the kid I passed it on to. I had a 500 series suit.

Waterproof, windproof, breathable and hard wearing. Washed once a year with reproofer and tumble dried.

Only trouble I ever had was in a yacht club we visited and someone dressed in pink trousers made comment about the riff raff being allowed in.

Gill Coastal seem to be between £100 and £160 - my wife has had one since 2006. Looks as good as new and the style hasn't dated. Used for dog walking these days :)

I think it might be worth enquiring to them to see if Aldi/Lidl are still doing sailing wear offers as I've not seen them for a long time. I bought a Lidl Sailing jacket six years ago and I have a Gill also and apart from being in stiffer material the Lidl one really is very very good for what you pay. It doesn't get a lot of use to be honest, but its perfectly functional and presentable. What more do you need?

Gill Coatal could be perfect. Not usually worried about brand names but I did get a bargain pair of Gill bib& brace coastal trousers at Midlands boat jumble yesterday.

Where's best to start shopping?
