Aldi patio/canvas cleaner

I notice that Aldi have their Doff patio magic on sale at the moment. Has anyone tried it on dirty canvas?

If that is the benzalkonium chloride based patio cleaner then its good as a mold mildew and algae killer on fabrics and ropes. I dilute it 10 fold for that purpose

( also kills moss )

I dont normally rinse it off but waterproof covers ) will probably need to be rinsed and reproofed.

Used the Wilkes stuff diluted to recommended solution
Applied to blue canvas boat covers with stiffish brush.
Left to dry.
Rained several days later and unable to detect any obvious mould or algae.
Covers still appear still to be as waterproof as before application.
Have one flat cockpit cover where water can pool, but none seeped through.

That,s good information.

It is a good preventative, but it is NOT a cleaner.

Scrub with borax solution (this is also a great algae killer), bleach with Oxiclean (or other percarbonate-based laundry product--this is OK for sails and canvas, chlorine bleach is not), and THEN treat with PM. Also retreat with water repellent.

Keeping the reppelant current is more important than people often realize; if the canvas dries faster, algae won't grow.

Barkeepers' Friend. 500ml spray bottle for £2.99 from Range, Lakeland etc. Spray over the dirty areas and the green areas around the stitching lines, leave for a couple of minutes, gentle scrub then wash off. Surprisingly good.
