One of the places we're considering keeping the boat at next Winter is Alcudia. According the online tariff (https://www.alcudiamar.es/Tarifas_Alquiler_Amarres.pdf) the monthly fee would be €463.33 + VAT. So according to my calculations for six months it would be €3,361 (€463 * 6 * 1.21). I just enquired with the marina and they advised the following...

I am very happy to tell you that we do have a 10m mooring available for October. If you want to stay only during the winter (from October until April), they price is going to be around €6344,45 (the price depends on the exact squared meters of your boat).

On the other hand, if you prefer to stay on a yearly basis, the price for the year is going to be around 10665,85€.

Please note that we are changing into a new concession on the 10th of October, so our new tariffs have not been yet approved by the Port's Authority. Nonetheless, the amounts I have just told you are the estimation of the maximum price that we could charge you.

When I queried this they replied...

Our prices will increase once we start with our new concession, that is why I gave them to you on the previous e-mail.

You should also take into account that the tariffs you are checking online (the current ones, not the future ones) do not have the VAT tax included, while the once I have told you already have the water, electricity and VAT tax included.

I computed the price for a 10x3.45 m boat, since the tariffs depend on the squared meters of the boat. Therefore, it does not matter which mooring would you be going to, although the only moorings we do have available at the moment are the 10m ones, so you would be going to one of them.

Am I missing something?

I’m guessing the monthly rate given there is not for peak season.
I expect the monthly rate for peak is the given rate plus the difference in day rate x number of days

So based on your price list that’s an extra £2,520 + iva, which looks about right from your figures

Yes this

Speak to the Antibes brigade re “ change of concessionaire “

There only one direction the fees go , when concessions end Pete .
Here in Fr when they end some have been going 40+ years there are two potential huge add on going Fwds .

1- The local authorities/ mayor can stick an oar in and force new infrastructure
Because the old regime has done nowt since 1979or what ever .

2- Paris / Madrid - can demand some €€€€ now the concession is opened up .

Combine the above = huge increase overnight.

Jez, I'm not talking about the peak season though, I'm talking 1/10 to 31/3. At €6300 for the winter it is nearly double the price of the next most expensive marina in Mallorca for the same period. Even Club De Mar is only €3380 for the winter!

Pete

I'm not certain but I have heard that there are extras (over and above) in the islands - (lighthouse fees and service connection fees etc) that you might pay if you are paying anything other than the daily rate.
Pete
Kinds of charges that you don't get in SC.
I'll probably get flamed for saying this - but it is just what I've heard.

I think you're forgetting to add the various extra tarrifs listed at the bottom of the pdf, when I add those on I get 7317 euro Inc IVA (assuming a 10 * 3.5m boat), the exact amount will vary depending on the square meterage of your boat.

I suspect the other marinas you are looking at will also have extra tarrifs that bring their prices to a similar cost to alcudia mar, when you start talking turkey with them.

Having said that, I've just done a calculation based on my boat size and they do seem to be expensive compared to what I am paying in Mallorca( in Adriano) .

Not sure if I am misreading this Pete, but if cost is a challenge why not keep her on the mainland - not necessarily SCM if you fancy a change. Personally I dont use up much annual leave between the 1st of Oct and 31st of March and if its the same for you, the cost savings during the winter on the mainland may soften the blow of a summer stay on the islands ?

Looking at it again, I hadn't realised the significance of the charges at the bottom. People talk about Ryan Air taking the whotsit with extras charges! No wonder they're the only ones that have confirmed availability.

Andy, thanks, we're already looking at other spots on the mainland and they remain a possibility. The point of this thread is that Alucudia seem to be out of kilter with everyone else. For example, I have a quote from Club De Mar (albeit it from a year ago) that quotes €3380 for 6 months all in. That's almost half of what Alcudia are trying to charge. Ironically, I don't think we'll use the boat much in the peak summer months as it's too hot, which seems crazy as they're the most expensive months!

For my 37 footer the fees are about 400 euros so your 34 footer will probably be 300 odd.
If you visit marinas on the islands (or anywhere south of Valencia) from SCM you'll be charged a fee on a daily basis if you don't have a receipt to say you've paid for the year.
Still don't understand your logic of wintering in Alcudia? It's mostly a tourist place so lots of it is closed in the winter. At least with Palma there's plenty to do if the weather's not good enough to take the boat out, plus it's only a taxi ride from the airport.

I'm not actually that interested in wintering in Alcudia but it would be OK. Long term I fancy Alcudia and guess it would be easier to get an extension if I was already resident.

I really want to be in Portals or Club De Mar. Problem is that 10m berths in Palma seem to be like hen's teeth.

If needs be we'll stay put in SCM for the winter, where it's cheap and I know the boat will be safe from storms etc.

First world problem eh!

As far as I’m aware Alcudia have never offered a “winter “ rate there had been some scare stories around about how the rates would alter when the current lease is renewed in October but when I went into the office in July they informed me that we will now be charged for the size of the boat not the berth size. This would explain why I saw marineros actually measuring boats earlier this year ! The outcome of this is that for our targa 52. The fees from October will be a MAXIMUM of. €17 k inc. electric and water and vat and possibly less, this does include a 15% discount as a long term bertholder this equates to around €80 per month more but we haven’t had an increase since 2016.

Thanks Paul, I was hoping you'd chip in. It's interesting that they don't differentiate between summer and winter monthly rates which does of course make Alcudia good value in the summer and poor value in the winter.

When they measured the boats, did they measure the LOA including the pulpit, anchor, etc or some other measurement? If the former then it's going to be even dearer for me.

I left the paperwork on the boat but from what I recall the length was 15.7 m. So that doesn’t include pulpit as it would be 15:97 . They also told me all the pontoons are having the electric boxes and water points updated but they will start with pontoon 1. ! I enquired when they would get around to doing pontoon 7 and was told probably 2 years !! At the moment they have to bring in additional generators to cope in the summer months but even then power cuts are a regular problem. So I then asked about WiFi which is at best rubbish and this was met by a shrug of the shoulders so we are possibly looking at moving to somewhere else off the island not sure where yet
