Aggresive threads

In my experience there are also the characters who hide behind the anonimity of the internet to be downright rude and offensive, simply because they can. Every forum has some, and to be honest we do not have the worst here.

People who are rude, abusive or use foul language on this forum or in real life simply demonstrate their own inadequacy and inferiority. Don't waste your time pondering what they have to say or debating it with them!

Well, that's my theory and I'm f***ing sticking to it so s*d off.

Richard

I must say I have not noticed the problem complained off. Some of the best threads are the contentious ones, if information posted is subject to contradiction or questioning, the resulting debate usually seems to deliver a more reliable result. Beginners are treated with more caution than the old hands who sometimes do get robust replies, but seem to be able to handle them.
I have not noticed that much rudeness on the technical forums though you do get some from the children down in the playground. Read some of the building/ diy fora to see bad it is elsewhere.

If one has had the privilege like I have, of studying under that great Scottish psychic and mystical thinker, Jimmy McPike, late of 2 Para and "D" Landing Barlinnie (Where the men of his family had a permanently reserved abode) then you wouldn't be troubled by such trivial matters, especially on the Internet. Once, through the mysterious drifting smoke, and tinkling tea mugs of the NAAFI he said to me,
" Young Acolyte, be not troubled by argument, do not endeavour to bend to the persuasive tongue, change not your chosen belief.........jus' batter his heid if he wilna listen"..

Look, pussy cat, "aggressive" is spelt with two s's not one! I suspect Hitler only spelt it with one and that's why he lost out on world domination.

Aggressive? AGGRESSIVE? WHO ARE YOU CALLING AGGRESSIVE?

I'll show you aggresive in a minute!

:D Hey, life's too short, if people can't get their point over without abuse, they probably don't have a point in the first place. The problem is theirs not yours, move on & get over it.

I have had what I thought were quite clever comments interpreted as abuse. So it goes. My response is usually an apology - it is only basic politeness anyway & there never was (or is) any intention to hurt or insult. Tease maybe - but why not? It is a good way to get people to think again about what they have posted or the way they think.

Of course, I must be prepared to accept the same back with good grace - and I hope I do. From the time I have been on here there have only been a handfull of situations that have looked like getting out of hand & most have been an escalation of a mis-understanding. So just make sure you don't escalate.

Pussy cat! Pussybleedin cat! Listen here sporran basher, if you removed the Buckfast wine bottle from in front of your eyes for a minute and looked at BOTH icon addresses, you would see that I, in fact, have spelt it both ways in an an attempt to be multicultural and promote nonMMGW.

:D :D

Communication via the written word is completely different to verbal face to face communication where over 90% of the communication is non verbal. Therefore the missing 90% is a result of the receiver perception engine ;-) which can lead to 1) completely different messages being received from what it is the intent to send and/or 2) exaggerated verbal to compensate for the lack of the non verbal.

Agreed and not only on Forums. I sent a reply to my niece when she admitted, in an email, that she could not understand why she was reluctant to visit Sweden. I wrote that it was understandable for her to be nervous because all Swedish girls were gorgeous, athletic and tall and it was possible that she was afraid she would be trampled underfoot. She is quite small.

Not heard from her since, and she will not answer my emails anymore. It was a joke for goodness sake.

If a person feels like a squat, overweight, mousey haired, ugly oink, it is rather difficult when their uncle confirms that it may be true. You have a long road to walk to repair this one.

Yes indeed. Maybe I should try again. Humble pie and all that. Actually she is gorgeous herself and she is an International Athlete who plays volleyball or something for the USA. So she may have grown up since I last saw her.

Ouch!

I fear she may be deliberately blunting a carving knife and booking an airline ticket for Northern England.

Not any more!

Aggressive…. my body won’t let me be aggressive anymore: :(

1 I can’t run fast enough to catch the bu**ers who insult or taunt.
2 All my old injuries are slowly reappearing to haunt me (most of which I’d forgotten about.)
3 This “be sporty and lead an active life” which all the medical professionals used to shout about hasn’t done me any good. As this has resulted in worn out bits and a depressive state of mind remembering all the things I used to be able to do with ease. :(

What’s that famous saying? “It now takes me all night to do the thing I used to do all night”…. mother nature…eh! :o
