I'm thinking of fitting an aerial splitter to use a car type radio cassette off my VHF aerial.
There is one advertised by Force 4 Chandlery for £26-95.
Anyone tried one? Any good? Any problems?

I thought about this but wondered what would be the consequences for 25W rf belting through the car radio. Is there something in this splitter to stop that happening?

I have this set-up. It works very well but you have to switch off the radio when you want to transmit on the VHF. Reception is no problem with both switched on.

Hi,

I have one and it works well, I didn't read anything about having to turn off the radio when transmitting on the VHF.

Some people are concerned that it may cause a problem with the VHF in an emergency, however it only takes a few seconds to remove it as it is a passive device.

I think you would be safer to use a Glomex RA21 splitter. This is an "active" unit which seems to automatically isolate the stereo when you transmit on VHF. I also believe it has a pre-amp in the stereo antenna output as reception is excellent.

I got one at the S'oton Boat Show off a Chandelry stand. I would imagine any Glomex stockist (Force 4 for example) would get you one if they are not in stock.
