Adverts on this forum

Personally I live with the ads, does not worry me in the slightest (just mentally block them out). In fact I like the idea advertising is paying for something that is useful and I get it for free. When the topic comes up its interesting the number of forum members who profess to not buying the magazines - how else are Time going to support this resource unless they sell advertising? The fact that they can sell advertising suggests that its a successful forum, has good coverage (and there is a lesson somewhere for manufacturers of marine products - for one - ignore the complaints of your product at your peril). However when we have limited coverage, on the road, at sea, overseas - I simply do not log into YBW at all, it takes too long, it uses up valuable bandwidth and I can live without it for a few days, weeks or months.

I do buy the mag(s), YM on subscription and others occasionally. I don't object to ads in principle but intrusive advertising I hate. Adblock solves it for me. Happy to whitelist the site when the ads are non-intrusive. Sites that block access if you have an adblocker running I don't visit at all.

The ads don't particularly bother me and it allows for this forum to continue without charge.
I'm impressed by the targeting of the adverts. At present I'm getting a lot of Beko dishwasher ads. I've been trying to get swmbo to look at them as a dishwasher is the most useful kitchen gadget but she won't allow me to get one. We've got every other gadget under the sun - most of them rarely if ever, used. A dishwasher is used every day.
Rant over.

Yes, it changed earlier today to a responsive design that removes the RHS 'news bar' on tablets and phones and on browsers running in relatively narrow windows

So let me get this straight.

With a nice wide browser window, I get 2/3 of the screen for the forum, and 1/3 of the screen is the right hand "news bar"

I can shrink my browser window to the point where the news bar disappears, but that then still only leaves the forum using 2/3 of my screen.

No way to get the forum to fill the screen without the news bar as it used to be, so not much of an improvement except for people with very small screens.
