Advanced Powerboat Cert

In January 1995 the isuue of an ICC was reduced to 10m from 24 after completion of PB2.
Currently-- If a Bod does the Advanced Powerboat Course and sits the Commercial exam and satisfies the Examiner.
It is good for 24m.
20 miles from a safe haven, up to 12 passengers.

Ang on, I,m confused!
Yer Mate has His Advanced Power boat cert
Plus His YMO?
I,m as confused as Doug now!

If up to standard And have the required qualifying sea-time, you can go for a direct practical assessment and not do a course. MCA code for Cat 3 waters(20 miles from safe haven) also requires 2 years relevant experience - ie. in vessels of over 12 knots.

Hi Paul.
Yep I gathered that.
But I,m not sure what the OP is asking ref converting his mates YMO to sail to power.
Flippen regs /rules MCA/ RYA stuff really confuses me!
Sorry just a thicko boat driver!

I obviously cant drive. Less some one tells me I can. Can some one tell me if the bloke that says I can drive or not, knows what the hell he's doing. I mean, I got a certificate, but only cos I held the bloke down by the throat. Which hardly seemed right to me.

The original request for info states "converting YM Offshore from sail to power", so that bit is nothing to do with the Advanced powerboat cert. Requires a YM conversion exam, which is a YM retake shortened down & emphasis on the motor vessel handling side.

Why confused?

YMO is sail.

Used to be able to use YMO + APB, to get Power endorsement to YM, but RYA no longer doing it. Mate wants this conversion.

Alan, he can do a YM power conversion exam. He will need 1,250 logged miles on a motor cruiser of which 50% must be in tidal waters. Exam is about 4 hours and costs £90.

He can charter a boat for the exam.
