If you wonder why it's quiet and slow, 3G has mostly been switched off in the UK so your devices will be falling back to 2G.
Adding wifi to your boat, any point using routers and sim cards nowadays or does starlink reign supreme?

Pretty sure he started Starlink, which is a subsidiary of SpaceX.
It was Tesla that he bought.
Not defending the guy, just setting out the facts as I'm aware of them.

Live and learn. Bought by SpaceX for their small satellite tech to make a LEO broadband system. There’s more to the story but Musk as always did nothing useful other than being born to money.

The Starlink terminal either has a router built-in or comes with an external router and switch, depending on the model.

The Starlink mini is a very interesting one, if you want 'actual' internet usage it is a great price point. We currently have a 4G router and a 5G unlimited plan SIM. The router is on permanently as we have cameras on board and the boat is connected by Victron Cerbo GX for some core and nice-to-have aspects. I also work from the boat occasionally at the moment, and will do more in future.
As we need good and reliable bandwidth, especially for work, the Starlink standby plan would not work for us. When considering that in order to use 5G we would need a new router and are paying £20/month for the current network, it isn't that a huge cost to get faster speeds and infinitely better coverage with Starlink. I was thinking of waiting until the boat refit is done and we are roaming to run Starlink, but given the faster speeds and cost I might go for it now. Power consumption is not a concern as we have enough solar and battery capacity.

You can switch out of low speed at any time using just the app if you need to, changing plans has no cost penalty

Not on roam plans, but on home plans it can cost thousands to get back online due to congestion.
