Add your gratuitous picture of a boat here....

This one looks like Cowes but is Med.

"Its not that funny"

When the OP said...."Posting a pic because the weather's crap and i want it to get warmer and less windy......." I thought the first one was! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hang on Julie. You're sailing westwards, towards a N Cardinal, that you're going to pass to the south of? Were you having a blonde moment? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lovely shot Ben. The 3 masted schooner is the fantastic Adix, built at Pendennis. Dunno what the navy hulled one is, do you?

Love your photos. My brother has a place on the banks of the Crinan canal - and I aim to get up there at somepoint. Your photos just increase that desire!

That pic makes me envious of those enjoying the view from the mast.
Way better than sitting in front of a keyboard...

Blimey, well spot indeed.
Unless - considering that also the boat in front seems to have passed south of the N cardinal - the time wasn't set properly on the camera and they were actually sailing eastwards.

Divemaster 1,

Great shots in the Calendonian Canal, where is your favourite place in that area.

I may be a colonial, but my Dad lives in Inverness and I get to spend some time in the area.

Cannot give you a favourite place as all is very scenic... and please note that my background is Coastal Norwegian with being brought up with what some people would describe as scenic, being my own "back yard" where I was brought up and taken for granted....

Back too the question....
Favouite stretch is from top of Fort Augustus Locks to end og Loch Lochy for its un-spoilt nature. (have to dig out some more photo's). Although the banks of Loch Ness are also beautiful..

Engineering wise and for nature setting is the dramatic scenery and inginuity of the Neptunes Staircase's 8 successive locks...which are very imressive indeed

Re: Never mind the boats...

Alf

I (as a novice lock observer) admire the engineering genius of Neptunes Staircase, when I am there.

Our local goverment (Launceston, Tasmania) have serious siltation problems in the upper reaches of our Tamar River, and rather think about how the europeans have coped, locks etc..(must be black magic) they insist on re-inventing the wheel, conducting studies and forming committees.

Enough of local politics, you are fortunate to live in such a great spot.

cheers

Callum

No - she was definitely going Westwards - in the Solent, but there's plenty of water there for smaller boats. The NCM is for the benefit of the big boys heading West towards the Needles.

Nope, that used to be my patch Mario :-) They're heading towards the Needles, far distance in photo. Passing Lymington to the right, Yarmouth to the left. Definitely sailing westwards!
