When they're knackered. There's no 'service interval' AFAIK for injectors - is she running rough, or do you have some other reason to think they're on their way out?

Try Wynns injector cleaner first.
Check tappets
check exhaust solenoids( if smoke at start up)
mine have done 1600 hrs and are as good as new.

Every 600 hours .... !
Just had all of mine replaced last year. Made no difference that I could notice but they were knackered allegedly.

Just sold 18yr old JCB Perkins 4/236 engine at least 15000 hours still on original injectors, didnt smoke started very well (better than the newer one I part exed her for) totally ran on supposedley crap red diesel !

Thanks for replies. My boat was in Chichester Yacht basin. I bought her 3 years ago and been very happy with her. Its amazing the different answers you get when asking the question regarding injectors. Volvo say every 600hours, but they would would'nt they? I am just experiencing a bit more black smoke when opening the throttles. I know that these engines over fuel on opening up, I might try some Wynns injector cleaner, see if that helps

This Wynns cleaner, from any decent motor factors and then pour it into the tank like Redex? Does it react with anything else you might have added such as Soltron etc?
