Here in Scotland we're well used to such ignorance. ?Saw an advert by MDL Marinas saying that they have 18 marina 'across the UK'. They're stretching it a bit aren't they?
Technically they are correct, they do run from East to West (or visa versa). If they said 'throughout' then that would be another matter.Saw an advert by MDL Marinas saying that they have 18 marina 'across the UK'. They're stretching it a bit aren't they?
Not really even East to West methinks. They might get close to covering the East aspect, but the UK extends west through both the Isles of Scilly and Lough Foyle - both areas thankfully free of MDL.Technically they are correct, they do run from East to West (or visa versa). Is Northern Ireland still in the UK? I guess that may have our most westerly inhabited point... unless we are counting Rockall, which could be a great place for a MDL marina, me thinks, plenty of passing trafficNot really even East to West methinks. And happy that they stay south of Watford for as long as they like.
PS. They don’t have a monopoly on marina operator arrogance - Kip has always annoyed with their self elected claim to be “Scotland’s Premier Marina”. Not sure on what basis, though possibly just highest price
….. but by them claiming “across UK” they are including Northern Ireland etc, which are somewhat further West.I have never had any connection with MDL but their marinas extend from Suffolk to Cornwall which fulfils my definition of a-cross, in that their presence is spread along the latitude of the UK. It would still be correct if their marinas were in Grimsby and Liverpool.
I think you'll find marketing and geography are two separate and unrelated fields.….. but by them claiming “across UK” they are including Northern Ireland etc, which are somewhat further West.
Less arrogant / ignorant (delete as appropriate) might have been “across (southern) England”, rather than UK
Does anybody bother to understand the different definitions of Britain, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom

Long may it continue. If the wealthy southerners discover how good the sailing is in Scotland, they'll push up the marina fees. Here in Scotland we're well used to such ignorance. ?
