Hi

I have seen a couple of MK 2 Achilles with inboards both petrol (Vire 2 stoke) and Diesel (Yammar 1GM) but these were both on Fin Keel versions but
this should make no difference. Think the main issue has to be space. Maybe one of the nice new Betas would be ideal. Things you need to consider
will be location of fuel tank, and exhaust system as the engine will be below the water line and there is a strong possibility of water siphoning back through
the exhaust into the engine. You said in your post about mud being a problem stopping you leaving the outboard in the well. You could find that you might have a more problems with an inboard as the cooling water intake will be low in the hull and is bound to get clogged with mud even with the sea cock closed and this would be a real pain to clear. Not sure if you have a 2 or 4 stroke outboard but a 4 stroke 6hp would be a big improvement over a 2 stroke in terms of noise
and smoothness. If you do fit an Inboard do not glass the sailing plug in place as when you remove it it will give easy access to the prop which could
prove invaluable if you ever got a rope round your prop.

Regards

Andrew

We have a Triple Keel Achilles 24 in the Blundellsands Sailing Club which has an Arona Diesel Engine fitted. It was installed by Dr Noel Maw (then of Sunderland Polytechnic). The fitting of it appeared in two articles published by PBO in April 1984 issue 208 and May 1984 issue 209. The engine is still going strong. Have you considered a lightweight Farrymann Diesel as an option?
