Just one other thing I am looking for! I have in my RYA exercise books Tidal Interpolation graphs, which yes I could photo copy for my RYA studies. Just wondered if there is someone who could provide me a link to download the graph to make life easier so I can print it for my current exercises.

Your links will be appreciated.

No problem Dave.

It is probably worth while me responding to others who seem to think the price of the printed version is due to copyright, etc and so justifiable, or that having a downloaded electronic copy instead of a paper one is not suitable or represents some sort of cheapskatedness.

As can be seen from other posts giving links there is not much copyright involved because the contents are international. One has to assume that the UKHO price is simply for production.

With respect to the validity of using downloaded copies instead of paper ones it happens that nations are discontinuing the production of paper copies as most users find electronic copies suitable substitutes.

While I have not done any specific check to see how many have done so, just from my own normal activities I know that at least the USA and New Zealand no longer print copies of the chart abbreviations and symbols, instead making the electronic copy freely available on the internet and with which most users seem to be happy.

For the USA, at least, all navigation publications, including Sailing Directions, and not just Chart 1 (Chart Abbreviations) are now only available in electronic form and are all free.

Yes this does seem to be the problem of the UKHO they are very copyright concious and keep their cards firmly close to their chest!

The funny thing about the problem I originally had on this symbol, is that I already have charts at home and could not find this symbol anywhere in the chart key! My thoughts on this, supposing someone was planning a passage and came upon a similar problem, its the evening, the Chandlers are closed and they are sailing on an early tide!

Well I feel if they were conscientious sailers maybe they would have tried what I did....use the internet!

Ok allbeit my problem was printed on a RYA training chart and I was shorebased, but suppose a symbol was set to one side because of lack of information, could there be a tragedy at sea through ignorance?

I'm affraid I have to speak out here for all UK sailors, and that such details of what we have disccused here should be made freely available on the internet etc, as there is no compromise for safety. If however certain information was easily accessed it has to be said the CG would maybe have a slightly less work load too!
