Flippen eck, that's me boat e's on the B%*tward
Oi! I,ll be makin a mess on yer teak agin:p

The whole point of the burgee always was, that it belongs to the members not YBW.

At times when there were troubles years ago, we may well have taken the flag off to some other forum. In fact there never was a reason why users of other forums can not have the flag.

It's about folk who have a boat and meet on the internet, then hopefully get together.

The reason for the SAE was devised alot of years ago and not by me.

Point being that every one has to get arse into gear and the work dont all fall on one person. It's a club, not some business enterprise, your club. No one is forcing you to joint, it's your option.

The problem is simple. Folk used to buy hundreds a year, it's now down to less than ten and has been for a few years.

I think the last time I had some made, was about four years ago. I've been useing them up ever since. It's so long ago that I've lost my flag mans phone number.

Strange every body wants one now, after I been months getting rid of the last two.

Haydn,
Is there a minimum order number for gatting a bunch made? If so (& I assume that is the case) could you wait until you have - say 50-75% of the run pre-sold before ordering a run? It would reduce the cash outlay & may encourage customers to drum up more business to reach the trigger point of orders.

Very happy with mine, it sits well in a hoist with the RNLI, WOA, SBC & SCCC ones. It can also be used as a fetching half a bikini - as modelled below by Kwaka.

I planned on ordering one a couple of years ago and after time decided that the awkward, and downright unpleasant people on this forum was not one that I wanted to show membership of with a pennant.
That is not to say that the creating them was not a nice notion.
However the emptiest vessels etc.

I have read the forum over this time and have had some great advice and help from a few individuals.

But I have to say this is vastly outwieghed by the thought that I was about to be slayed at the first chance by those with the loudest voices.

Sadly this forum is not a shadow of what it appeared to be and that is down to a minority of the contributors.

Ready for the next slaying!

Not something you want to hear but believe it to be true.

Well

Maybe it's about time the forum got back to it's roots and became a bit more fun and jousting and the unpleasant folk were given short sharp shrift?

Having served 10 years on here, ok, sorry maybe as a raggie and never taken it to seriously, met some really great folk had really good advice, hope it can carry on

Can I please have a flag?

Ian

Up to now, there has been no restrictions. I'd order maybe 20, but unbeknown to me, my flag man would make 50?? Last year I got ten off him and the year before. From the stock he had. I would not expect him to do that anymore. I made him aware two years ago, that they were going very slow and not to stock up on them. He may have a few left. dunno if he's kept them for years. I'd have to find his number again.

The main problem is an ethical one. The flag belongs to the members. That means you lot. You must decide it's fate. It does not belong to me and deffinatly not to YBW.

Thinking and looking back in the archive, what a ball we used to have. Drive three hundred miles, then motor a hundred miles to Weymouth for a get together. Or it might be a party in London. Else another trip to the Med and an invite to.....Maybe air ports and fuel costs have killed it.

A few years ago there was a big do in the Solent, hundreds of folk went.

Then it was organised again, loads of effort went in. Not many turned up.

It may be due to fuel costs, bet the government have lost a bundle.

Dunno whats changed, but as said on other threads. Boaty life has changed.

It now seems to be more about a weekend on the pontoon with the family. Nowt wrong with that. But no flag needed.

Strange bloke Ive been here for umm.. maybe fourteen years. Or when ever it began. Only a few folk ever said anything nasty. Is there anything nasty to say about boats.???Motayauty Tell me about the good advice you got. Or maybe bad advice also. You say that you had good advice. But then go on to say it was about thoughts?? and louded noises. Yer paranoid. Get help.

I see this thread has degenerated nicely into how much better things were in the old days, when the old forum had a cosy little clique of members who enjoyed telling newbies to f. off if they dared ask a question or put forward a different point of view.

How sad that things have changed so much. ;)

Cobbler's; It's degenerated into two people parading their various predjudices. I'm a more recent newbie than you & have never been told to F.off. lots of people disagree with my views & ideas & tell me so - but that's cool. Sometimes I learn from it & sometimes they don't . . . :D

My tuppence worth. Well done Hayden.

Well I have had two and been very pleased with both of them.First one wore out but is currently lurking in my filing cabinet and will be disinterred and put back into service if no more are forthcoming.
With regards to wearing the Burgee mine has always been on display and have yet to meet any forumite who has not been pleasant and a pleasure to meet.

Problem has been that a certain few are more interested in proclaiming their political cant rather than enthusiasm for boating. The numbers posting in Lounge who very rarely contribute to any of the other forums makes me wonder exactly how many would stay on the forum if the Lounge was shut down. ?

Doing the flags was never a problem. I enjoyed it, especially when there were loads to go out. But about three years ago, they started slowing down. Each time I got some more, the question was, will these ever go, or will I be stuck with them.

The irritating thing. Folk would ask to buy one, say the cheque was in the post, only about one in five ever arrived.

No, the flag was never well advertised, it was not advertised much when 130 went out in the first week or the years that followed. But then I dont think it was ever intended for the bod that went on MBY once, to ask a stupid question.

It always was, your flag, not mine.

Tug, like I said. You've got a special upside down one coming.

Thanks HLB it arrived this morning

I can pop down and soon change that.

Actually, maybe I won't as 'outsiders' may discover we are not the hard drinking, hard men we pretend to be.
