A sad story. Forum Burgees

I second that, it was the best made burgee I have ever seen.... so sad I won't get another...

Apart from the bloke that said it did'nt flutter right and the string was the wrong sort. Some one bought it off him.

To answer the various PM's. It's not a question of I dont want to do it any more. It's hardly a job.

Theres about 20 gone out in the last three years and going slower and slower.

Yes they could be advertised more, or given free with every copy of MBY. MBM and YBW. But was that ever the intention??

Sorry - twas some years ago though, just never got around to it

I did order one once, but the delivery did not meet expectation.

The good side.

hlb, you are obviously quite right, giving them away free in any capacity would be wrong and actually detract from them altogether. I am surprised you have only moved 20 in the last three years, I see why the end has come and I don't blame you at all for your decision... just one of those things that if you had one (as I did) and then lost it and wanted to replace it... the idea that it is now irreplaceable makes you want one even more. So as an unintentional marketing initiative this post was excellent. So come on, how about a farewell run of Burgees. I think if you had an order deadline of say 31st August to receive cheques in the post you would find a small pile of letters daily on your front door mat...... (I would order 2 to have a spare!) :)

Me too - My second is still on the boat but is becoming very worn.

HLB Do you have stock you are trying to clear? If so let me know price and I will send cheque.

What about doing one order per year. Put a sticky on the main forums for a month (maybe at the beginning of the season) and try to get a bulk order of 50 or 100 at once.

I'd be game for a couple of spares as well for when my construction work is eventually finished.

Is it the whole writing and posting a cheque thing that puts people off? If you could pay online eg the dreaded paypal, it would be easy and quick and you'd definitely get better take-up. If I could pay online, I'll have one.

Cheers
Jimmy

Good point Jimmy. If the PayPal payment is marked as a gift, there are no fees.

After the

Doing the flags was never a problem. I enjoyed it, especially when there were loads to go out. But about three years ago, they started slowing down. Each time I got some more, the question was, will these ever go, or will I be stuck with them.

The irritating thing. Folk would ask to buy one, say the cheque was in the post, only about one in five ever arrived.

No, the flag was never well advertised, it was not advertised much when 130 went out in the first week or the years that followed. But then I dont think it was ever intended for the bod that went on MBY once, to ask a stupid question.

It always was, your flag, not mine.

Tug, like I said. You've got a special upside down one coming.

Barrage of abuse I got for trying to organise one at Southampton I can assure you I wont be taking up the role of official flag supplier!

Sorry chaps...

I lost mine, blew away in the wind - would love another and agree that paying on line would be the way to go.
A certain forumite I know runs an on-line business, wonder if he would be interested in stocking them?

Hmmmm

Maybe I was a little harsh on my last post, had a cup of tea now and given it some thought...

I may have an idea to make it fairly straightforward, i will chat to correct person on Monday..

Cheers

Sorry to hear that HLB. I cherish mine and fly it with careless abandon and in the most inappropriate circumstances as often as I can.

Of course only the hardiest of forumites will acknowledge my association in the circumstances, and have to have a thick skin to take all the insults thrown from pipesmoking seamaster 27 skippers as they go by on their apoplectic flag ettikety way.

Perhaps this should be a sticky. Others decide. Maybe across all forums, it was never exclusive.

130 burgess went out on first launch. It took a year or two to catch up after that, Some flags went round the world. Some in far flung lands.

MBY Asked and was granted permition to make a copy of the mouse to show it on Their exhibits. Far bigger.

Fair play, The forum flag belonged to the users. Not to MBY and they accepted that. But unfortunatlly fourum
useres stopped buying the flag After a few years. So it no longer can be provided.

Don't want to be critical as I wouldn't want the burden of being the organiser, but I will be. Constructively I hope.....

I hope someone picks it up, and I want to be able to click and pay by paypal or something simple. I never write cheques any more, can't find the cheque book, if I do can't find a pen, if I do can't find an envelope - oh here's one but it's got a window. Now where's a stamp, and I've lost his address again. I've wanted a replacement burgee for ages if it was a click away I'd have bought it.

When selling by paypal you can get it to automatically print out pre paid address labels (when you can when selling via ebay anyway) which makes the job of the administrator simpler.
