Im just ordering a tube heater for the engine room for a Sealine 34. Im not sure how much heat they give off, will a 2' one do or should I go for the 3' one?

Im also wondering whether to get one for the saloon or stick with buying the oil filled radiator.

Thanks

Cliff

used a 3ft tube heater from TLC.com (as advised by a forumite) with a plug thermostat (about £15 each) in my Sunfury (1X VP diesel). Gets quite hot & seems fine. Beware if you order one though as they don`t come with cable, but easy to wire up (if you remember to take the cable with you !)

Just ordered from the very company. Ive included an oil filled 700 watt radiator. Ordered the thermostat too for the tube heater.

Thanks for the warning about the cable!!

How warm do you set your thermostat in the engine room?

So What did you go for in the end ?

I've got the same boat (S34) and also have a 700w oil filled rad in the cabin (all doors open). I put it on last weekend so will see what effect and how much power it used tonight.

I've got one 4ft bar heater linekd to a frost-stat for the engine room which I'll fit at the weekend.

Also thinking of a small fan for the cabins on a time switch to come on every now and then to circulate the air (read on here that it's a good idea sometime ago).

What with that lot and the obligatory dehumidifyer it's a major operation to put it all away to go out boating though.

As big as you can fit 3' will be fine.
Mount them as low as possible, but obviously above bilge pump level !!!
Ours pick up there power supply from the battery charger, therefore when you leave the boat you only need to leave one circuit breaker on.
Our stat is set at 2 oC and someone else suggested a setting of 6oC however the setting you require may depend on where exactly you mount the stat. Best too set it high and the first chance you get check it when its cold and adjust as required.
I have the adjusting knob and the mains switch in the engine room taped with gaffer just in case they get knocked off if I am down there.
