A problem one wouldn't want to get wrong!!

Re: A problem one wouldn\'t want to get wrong!!

Thats just totally wrong! On the first count the whole idea of a holding tank is so that you don't discharge ANYTHING in harbours or inshore anchorages, only at sea in deep water tideways, where it very quickly disperses. Secondly I have dived most of my life, and respect the sea and marine life so I would not discharge any waste in sensitive areas, especially areas where people swim. A little bit of totally bio-degradable paper, which is organic material anyway, is not a problem. The big problem is chucking non-degradable stuff overboard.

Hey boatmike. You are saying that paper is okay but s..t is not. I'm not talking about discharging into an anchorage, but lots do, along with the paper. Paper is definately a NO NO. What non degradable stuff are you talking about?

Re: A problem one wouldn\'t want to get wrong!!

You appear to have a comprehension problem so I will use very simple language.
The post was about HOLDING TANKS.
These are put on boats to hold all the poo and bum paper and wee wee so that we don't pump them overboard until we get away from shore or pump out at shore stations if you can find one.
Poo is bio degradable because it is organic (unless you eat Fray Bentos pies with the wrapping still on).
Paper is bio degradable because it is made from trees which are organic.
An excess of either in confined waters is not good for the fishes who don't actually eat poo as you suggested and don't enjoy being crapped on any more than I do when swimming.
However when discharged into the wide blue oggin, neither settle gently to the bottom as you suggested and bacteria break it down so it's harmless.
( Clue---- Fishes poo in the sea too!!!)
Do you understand now?
