I have changed the oil and filters on both engines today and replaced all the stuff that needs changing (apart from the impellor, which I will do tomorrow)
To the questions:
a) How do you get large amounts of used engine oil out of teak decks?
b) How do you get a dipstick out that has been dropped in the deepest part of the engine room?
c) How do you undo the zinc anodes in the freshwater system that I can't actually see?
d) Who designed the TAMD 63P because I would like to make them walk the plank!
e) Who designed the Phantom 37 Engine bay because I would like to make them walk the plank!
f) Who wrote the Volvo instruction book that says "Simply undo and replace the zinc anodes which are found in the ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,," because I would like to make them walk the plank!!!
If anyone want's to come and say hello we are on F12 (I am not in a good mood!!!)

G'day Moose,

The anode in the cooling system has a standard bolt head, close to the inlet I think,
look for a bolt head that is out of place or in an odd location, it's on top to easy to get at,

Good luck with the others.

Pop down the local disability aids shop and get a 'helping hand'

They are only about £15 and with a little practice you can even pick up small nuts and screws etc.

I inadvertantly dropped 5p into my bilge a few months ago. At the time, I thought that at least it was somewhere safe but in recent months my financial situation has got quite dire. Last week I got my boat back up on the slip and hopefuilly later today I'll have the engine out and will be flush once more. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

G'day Henk,

You may be correct re square head on the anode: I recall we removed the original and decided to replace it, but had problems locating one locally, finally called into a chandler and found on a little too long but otherwise ok, cut the end off and installed it, no problems, hut I think the hex not a square,

I will come and say hello but will wait until you've finished as I just know I'd end up helping and I'm sure there isn't room for two in them there engine rooms?
If you need anything just shout.

And the answer is: Get it out now! I have just had to shell out for a new bilge pump, and probably a new domestic battery bank after my old pump ingested debris in the bilge. It swallowed a small piece of broken plastic the size of a 5p, and jammed on it, killing the domestic battery in the process.

The poxy little strainer basket had been smashed by some ham-fisted oaf's attempts to get it so seat properly, which is how it came to be eating rubbish. In consequence, I spent last Sunday upside down in the bilges, clearing everything larger than grains of sand out of there.

Jeez! Tie-wraps, bits of plastic, screws, the little sealing rings from oil cans, you name it, I found it down there, hiding in corners and just waiting to get dislodged.
