Saturday evng, just hving dinner , get a telephone call.

"Is that TCM?" - me :er yes, speaking

"Tracker network here, regarding a mercedes benz?" -oho right, yes?...

"can i just confirm some details, it's an estate AMG E55, is that correct?" ...yes yes

"And the registration is RX03 LTV?" -Yes, yes that's the one !!!

"Well, this is customer services department here to confimr that we have it on the system, and continuing to send signals to the vehicle, but it has not yet been located. "

me : er right, so you've rung me up to tell me you HAVEN'T found the car?!!!

"that's correct sir, after 48 hours if the car isn't found we make a courtesy call and ...blah blah "

Fraid i slightly bit her head off, and explained that the call did not embody good customer service - it was the ILLUSION of customer service and just like those poxy waiters and waitresses who serve ordinary food and then halfway thru say "is everything alright??" - it's a total windup.

Oh and i also got a letter Dear victim from the police this morning. As did swmbno too. First class stamp and everything. Useless nerks...

Did you ask them how they know where to send the signals if they haven't located it? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Surely you don't want it back anyway do you? Once the beak is told you were exceeding an A road speed limit by 45mph a car will be the last thing you need and the insurance payout is easier than trying to sell it.

Hmmmm. . . .more I think about it, the more convenient it looks being stolen just after a licence-losing speeding event!!!! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Scuse me for being a bit dim here Matt, but oughtn't the tracker thingy be sending signals to the tracker company?? Surely it should be saying "Help, I'm in Liverpool, just outside the Beatles museum" - well you get the jist anyway.

Spoken in my best Basil Fawlty manner - "Whats the point in a tracker that doesn't say where it is"??

Can you tell us exactly which type of tracker you had fitted?
My new Beemer goes back to the dealer this weekend to have a tracker fitted. Cost approx. £450 plus annual air charge of another £100 or so. All this because every insurance companyI approached made a fitted tracker a pre-condition of coverage against theft. Apparently this is becoming a standard requirement on certain types of car. Clever move by the insurance industry, which at a stroke is able to eliminate their losses from car theft whilst "holding premiums level". Very Gordon Stealth Brownish.

PS Who owns Tracker??

The guys who robbed Mats car were not opportunists. Not many even hardened car thieves would break into the house to get the keys, this notches up the crime in the eyes of any judge / jury.

These guys were professional. Would not be surprised if the tracker was disabled before daylight. There are only so many places you can hide the device. A car like Mats would obviously have one, so it would be the first thing they would be looking for.

You would probably have more chance with a tracker fitted to a ford cortina, cos they wouldn't bother looking for it.

insurance payout is easier......

Insurance is usually worth diddly squat unless you have paid to insure the gap between what they will pay out and what it will cost you to replace like for like.

If you lose a car that you stood half a chance of selling for what you bought it for because of the waiting list....you're shafted good and proper.

I'd understood from the literature that there are hundreds of places you can secrete a tracker device in a car.

Maybe they would have a device like a bug detector that would pick up any radio transmission from the vehicle - not difficult if you know the range of frequencies.
Once activated they could simply "locate and destroy" before the rozzers turned up.
