It's only a wmv file. If you don't have windows media player, you'll need to install that. Not dangerous

There is a big difference between wmv's and swf's. wmv's as far as i know cannot do any harm, but I do know for sure that swf's can run system level commands on your machine. I know this because I have in the past written swf's that keep a log of activity on the local disk. The fact that I was able to do this (for entirely benign reasons made known to the user I assure you!) was useful, but it also worried me greatly. I imagine that this is no longer possible on a properly patched system, but you should still be cautious.

i do have windows media player but after it started i got a message asking me to accept something called 'video codec'.

A video codec is a piece of software that deals with different compressions.

Popular compression techniques such as indeo or DivX are used as they squash movies far better than micronsoft with better quality.

In order to play back movies compressed with for example DivX you will need the codec, call it a key. It is nothing sinister. Many movie editing suits such as Studio will have their own codecs, hence the need for a third party to view them, a 'bolt on' codec will need to be installed for media player.
