A bit of a disapointment.....................

Full Circle's diagnosis of fuel starvation may be worth checking out. We picked up some dodgy fuel in Holland a few years back and the crud in it blocked our filters - result engine shut out. 15 mins later or so and we would get another 10 mins out of the engine!

Firstly, I am sorry to hear of your engine problems, I hope the rest of the boat is up to scratch?

First question for you is that on the 15 August (1304) you wrote:

"I am buying a new used boat through a brokerage. The survey is Saturday 16th and if that is satisfactory I aim to launch, sea trial, pay and sail away on the following Friday, just before the bank holiday. The trouble is, I can't complete until funds are cleared, won't buy without a sea trial"

It is the last six words . . . . ?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

On a lighter note, don't just take one engineers' word for the condition of your engine. I am willing to take a look and advise and I am sure it is not as bad as has been suggested. All pipes corrode due to salt water and these can be replaced and or repaired.

If the oil leak is bad, you will see oil spraying out or drip, drip, dripping out of any fault. If it is less than the above, it is possible to repair without spending too much. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A bit of a result;

the yard reckons it is choked up hoses and corrosion and will replace all parts and rebuild. Estimate is high hundreds. The previous owners have offered to pay some of the bill. And the yard won't be charging marina fees until they have finished the job, which may not be a couple of weeks.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

I really feel for you. Its always a bummer when you buy something and it goes wrong very shortly after. We are on our first season and have had a few problems (Fuel) similar symptoms. What Sadler is it? if a 32 I have had lots of experience with fuel system as I topped one up with water once instead of diesel! Good luck for the future.......
