There was a plan pre-Brexit and Pre-Covid for the EU to issue long term tourist visa's but it got lost during covid. I also suspect that it got kicked into the long grass because of Brexit even though the proposed change was planned before the referendum. It is possible it will come back if the EU feels that they can do so without it looking like they have egg on their face and that it is some kind if win for the UK. The truth is that the proposal had nothing whatever to do with politics at all.

According to the RYA. the EU made an offer of 6 months for all UK citizens visa free if the UK reciprocated for all EU citizens. UK turned them down.

This as been going around for a while but I have never seen anything to suggest it's true sorry to say .
Personally I think some countries will in time come to some kind of policy to extend people stay and not just cruisers.
My experience is very very are interested unless you go and look and ask for answers .
My policy as always been , to. Just get on with it and if some thing happen deal with it then .
It's worked for me and many other non EU cruisers .

Europeans already have 180(in one go) in 360 when visiting the UK. We from the UK have 90 in 180 when visiting Schengen.
I agree that there was an offer from EU for 180 in 360 for both parties but UK refused to accept some aspect of the "free movement" access issues therefore didn't get 180 in 360 for us and didn't bother to chase it. Its not clear to me exactly what those concerns and issues were, but this has been discussed many times in the past on these forums.

Yes, I have seen that. However it only deals with the UKs approach - there is nothing in there pointing to the EU saying or potentially offering 180 days. Since this would be a special situation re Schengen (ie other 3rd countries would not be able to avail of it) one would imagine that it would be clearly highlighted and offered by the EU in public. I think if it had been it would have been very difficult for the UK government to have declined.
I am not supporting the UK government's position at all, but it is better to be accurate than not in reportage.

So if I read that correctly, the 90 in 180 is the standard default for visitors to the EU. The HMG failed to ask for 180 in 360 so they didn't get it? The EU asked for it for their people and were given it?

No, it is standard for visitors from third countries to the UK to be offered 180 in 360. The EU population simply fitted into the already existing regime. The UK did not change anything.

Our government did not regard it as being sufficiently important to do anything about it at the time. Instead stating it would be something that could be looked at later.
In other words, there are no votes in it for them.
