69 immigrants attempt to enter Lowestoft

I have a solotion to this...

Return all migrants which will free up millions of jobs nation wide,

All british natives able and fit for work can now find work and are not unemployed and claiming benifits,

Now all people that are already employed can now stop complaining about layabouts and scroungers as most british citizens will now be in work and paying taxes.

And like that the uk economy will soon be back as it used to be. Self sufficient and a good place to live and work for all british citizens

That aint hard fighting to keep Britain Britain has been the way its been for 100s of years, unfortunately its only the last 40 years or so this country as went down the shitter!!

Everybody that lost their lives in the world wars would be turning in their graves if they could look at what Britain has become....wheres our rights
I suggest all you Roman/Saxon /Norman descendants get returned too, and leave the country to us Celts....

What do civilised countries do with people wih no ID?

Tongue in cheek: they turn a blind eye to their presence and hope they'll find their way across the channel to the UK

Seriously - there are scientific ways of ascertaining where a person has come from - analysis of hair samples and dental work for example. DNA may pinpoint a person's ethnic origin too. These are expensive tests though. Many people will falsely claim to be from a red-listed country (Somalia, N Korea etc) as we won't return anyone to these countries as they're deemed dangerous. Again, without documentation, could you tell a Somali person from an Eritrean for example? Most countries have relatively few asylum seekers turn up, so the small numbers they do have aren't a problem. Here in the UK the number of legitimate asylum seekers is small realtive to the massive number of EU citizens who can come at will under free movement laws.

I did some research into the vessel involved: East German lugger built in the early 1960 in Brandenburg on the river Havel west of Berlin about 150 miles from the nearest coast.

I think what has happened is some Human Rights lawyers have argued that when the ship was detained (and thereby all present had then been arrested), they had not 'entered' the UK (even if they were in territorial waters) and therefore the offence was not complete. That's my guess. The law of 'Attempts' is not easy as an alternative. Those detained will all now successfuly claim they had been unlawfully arrested and those convicted that they had been wrongly convicted. They will be paid compensation by the Home Office, you can be sure.

"Five of the migrants had already been sentenced to eight-week prison sentences after admitting at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court to knowingly entering the UK without leave."

The prosecution was a charade.

If I was looking at starting a life in a foreign country, I wouldn't worry about 8 weeks in prison. It might put me off doing seasonal work though. I think the authorities saw sense and realised this.

I disagree. It is the legislation that is the farce not the prosecution. Believe it or not we have the rule of law in the UK so some immigration officer can’t just make it up as he goes along and rightly so.

If they didn't actually enter the UK, just put them all back on the fishing boat, along with the crew, and escort them out of UK waters. Fit a hidden tracker first, so they can't sneak back.

And who will agree to skipper a boat full of illegal immigrants into France or Holland?
