So I am sure the supplier is delighted with being named on the forum for supplying fuel illegally to a private yacht.

And helpfully the quantity of fuel (and various posts on the unusual boat) should help any official deciding to follow up on this.

How do you know I am not coded and a commercial Skipper? Therefore entitled to buy at that price. How do you know I dont have a huge 750 litre tank just for my Genset and heating? The supplier complies with legislation by having his paperwork clearly state what the fuel must not be used for.

The same deal can be had from one of the Cowes fuel suppliers. You just ask.

FYI, it is not illegal to supply marked fuel without duty, it is illegal to use that fuel for road transport without duty. If caught with a tank full by HMRC on the road they confiscate the vehicle.

Never heard of a boat being confiscated in the UK for using marked fuel-most of us use it, duty paid or not.
 
The 60/40 split is merely a suggested split by HMRC, customers can declare whatever they decide that their use is for

I do. The up side is that we have warm air heating, hot and cold pressurised water, able to plug in and fill water tanks by hose.

I also remember 60 years ago with none of the above and the full two weeks Glasgow Fair holiday where it rained for the full 2 weeks.

Ah. The days of newspapers on the cabin sole to soak up the damp.

Getting the Pansy stove to light was always a challenge with sparks going everywhere.

The joys of sailing on the west coast.

Plus some of the many posts you have made on here about your boat and your usage.

But if this was for a different commercial vessel all good - though odd that the supplier recommended you contact the HMRC and your eye wink comment about (not) doing so.

Quite a while back i was reading through a fuel suppliers web site. Cant remember the exact details so may be a little wrong, but it basically said there were 3 types of red diesel. Two of the numbers started with EN and the 3rd was a BS number. The BS number fuel is proper marine diesel, no fame and possibly a little sulphur?
One of the EN fuels can have up to 7% fame, the other up to 10%. Its also perfectly legit for a retailer to sell any of the 3 advertised as marine or red diesel.

I questioned premier what fuel they sell in portsmouth harbour but they had no idea. All they could tell me was its treated with soltron.
I heard an advert maybe 6 months ago but wasnt really listening that was advertising that they sell proper marine diesel, possibly lymington way.
 
I was away for all May and part June in Scotland. I had reasonable weather, got an all over sun tan and none of the "hotspots" like Oban, Gigha or LochAline were too busy. Many further afield anchorages were empty. I never put the heating on once! On return in mid June, the weather started behaving like last year with gusts forecast at almost double the wind strength, small craft warnings popping up and no really settled periods. I dont recall Scottish summers being like that - more common was set in damp, misty weather.
