50k to buy boat as investment?

The only way make sound investment in a boat is to buy a brand new, well know hull moulding, then fit out yourself with second hand stuff. That way you've got a brand new 2013 hull to sell in 5 years time you'll prob get your investment back.

Maybe.......

I am going to against the flow.... I think a boat can be a excellent investment, With a substantial return.

What are you investing in when you buy a boat??

Some say fibreglass, rope and chintzy curtains.

Some say spars, sails and salted beef.

I say Holidays.

We spend nowadays about 50 days on board every year... Sometime more..

So about 7 weeks or so.

Charter a yacht, At £1300 a week that's just over 9k

So, I have a assett, which is now barely depreciating, I figure I've dropped 6k over 8 years...

And I spend about 5 k per year.

So that's a annual cost of £5750....

9100-5750= 3350 of free holidays.

That for me is 9% return....

Pretty good value I think.... And I can take loads of other peeps on free holidays... Adding more value.

Sorry your words are wrong. in the context of your comments its a least costly way of getting rid of you money - never an investment nor one with a return - merely a cheaper way of achieving a slower way of getting rid of your money.

I know of one chap who managed to make money on buying a boat.

He bought a new Halberg Rassay 46, speced for Florida, AC, 110V etc, etc. He bought the Swedish Krone at just the right moment, which later rocketed in value.

Sailed it across to the USA and sold it, making a cool $50,000 in the process. The currency variations and a 2 year waiting list were the main factors.

With the added bonus of not having to sail her back in a gale :)
