Today celebrates my 50th year as a boat owner. My grandad left it to me when he passed away, i was 11 years old.
Can still remember it like yesterday, moored down Cliff Quay on the Orwell. In those days the banks of the quay were made up of sand bags.

The boat, an 18ft open motor boat fitted with Petrol/Paraffin engine and had a canvas wind dodger on the front. We use to light a fire to heat pitch, which was then painted into the bilges and underside of the hull.

Not a lot of boats about in those days other the the beautiful barges going about their work from Ipswich to the Thames etc and old river paddle boat made it's appearance now and again.

No problems in those days to drop a mooring anywhere along the fore shores, or to tie up along the wall at New Cut West.

Great days.

Warm congratulations.
Makes me feel young and unexperienced on my 48th birthday in my 25th sailing season.
Many happy seasons.

Wow. You still have the same boat?

That's fantastic. I wish I'd kept many things that I've owned in the past, but it's not always possible.

NO.
That old boat sat on the mud down at Levington creek, that's on the river Orwell, for donkey years, eventually to it's grave.
