Bedford.Good beer, pleasant countryside and historical and cultural interest - and the fact that only the imaginative and adventurous ever make it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Bedford /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I suppose there's a River Bed to ford - when I run out of exciting things to do I'll come and have a look!
Been to New Bedford - the home of Herman Melville of Moby Dick fame - excellent museum had a model of a Thames Barge.
It's very challenging to sail into the Wash and up the river to the town. Takes real skill and determination. Also has UK's largest river festival and it's regatta is second only to Henley
The marina, of course, offers good shelter in all weathers. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The Real Bedford - England's second oldest borough, also has good museum, excellent gallery, excellent music (being the host town to the Glenn Miller Festival amongst many other musical events), excellent restaurants, especially Italian and Indian, and historic Viking dry docks amongst many other 'claims to fame'. Far more than New Bedford. That's why there are so many 'Bedfords' and bedfordshire place names in the USA. It is also home county to Capt Sir William Peel RN, captain of HMS Shannon, awarded the VC for his courage during the Crimean War. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
