46 foot Yacht sinks off Wexford

They hadn't got into that vicinity. They must have clouted something hard to cause them to take on water in the same incident as damaging steering.
Seems from the report that they only started to sink when they were take under tow. They were limping back to Kilmore Quay when met by th lifeboat 50 miles out.

Giuliana placed 11th in the ISC Rating System Div 4B in the 2018 Round the Island Race, out of 36 in her class -

And it looks like after Vigo she was going to join the ARC later on - here is her entry :
World Cruising Club
She is a Grand Soleil 45.
There are currently 21 for sale on Yachtworld -

I googled her, to try to find out some more info about her or the class.
There is a general arrangement plan shown in the photos of this one -

And there appears to be a bulkhead between the steering gear compartment and the two quarter cabins - the steering cables pass through this bulkhead.
The bulkhead was obviously not watertight, but even so, I would have thought that it should have helped to slow down the rate of ingress.
However I was not there, and I am simply wondering from the comfort of my computer chair as to 'what happened'.
She is registered in Jersey - so maybe the UK MAIB will investigate her loss, and publish a report in due course?

Is there a captain on a submarine somewhere in the Irish Sea who's wondering how to word the report on his bent periscope?

I'll joke because no one was hurt, but those on board have my sympathy - no fun for anyone, and even with insurance, there'll be a fair hit financially
itis indeed no joke , not to the boys on the Antares or multiple other who have reported incidents with submarines .

"As the yacht began to take on water, the lifeboat crew proceeded to place a salvage pump on the vessel, but such was the speed at which the vessel was taking on water, it was not enough to deal with the situation."

That to me sounds like it had nothing to do with the tow.

Theres a story about a Solicitor in Dublin who represents the fishing community. A client of his was trawling and suddenly stopped and started to get dragged backwards. Suddenly popped free just as they thought they were for it. When they pulled up the nets there was a big black ball thingy in there with lots of small plates on it. They boat was badly damaged. A brand new state of the art trawler. A sub.. definitely a submarine...but whose sub? He wrote to the RN. "Ive got this thing off one of your subs" ... no answer. He wrote to the USN. Similar. No answer. So he wrote again. "Well if it's not yours.... and its not theirs.... it must belong to the Russians. I'll pop over to the Embassy and ask them".

Funnilly enough the phone rang!
