Thankyou for the input there. Believe it or not there are quite a few coves and protected areas around the island which are normally inaccessible so thought was simple diving gear/snorkelling gear could be thrown on board, along with overnight basics. A boat which could offer this facility along with simple handling, good day sailing/racing capability, whilst being very solid would be the Europa.
A Drascombe might be on the pricey side for our meager budget?
I suppose no boat will be perfect although most the time it will be left anchored Clarence bay and hauled out only for maintenance. The tender itself will need to be solid like you say as although the swell is rarely big here, the exposed nature of the beach and pier head is what causes problems for visiting yachts as a tender must be practically surfed onto a dumping wave beach or teetered alongside the teeth of an exposed pier head. Watching the RMS loading passengers onto the water taxi boat form the pier head the other week was an alarming experience!
There has long been talk of a long harbor wall here but with budget constraints not sure it will ever happen. Cargo vessels RMS/MOD/USA freight/ load and unload via barge system every 2 weeks or so which is always a big operation and the pierhead is no go area at these times!
The beautiful gin clear waters here and steady if not gusty wind (lee side) should make for some excellent sailing.
