I saw an advert for a 4 megapixel camera which will be for sale in Lidl's either later this week or next week for £79 or £89, can't remember which. It may be an opportunity for the more careful with cash people, to research it if one is required. The make is not one I have ever heard of but perhaps it would do the job. If anyone else can add anything to this I am sure there would be a people who would appreciate it. Just be aware that the more pixels the bigger the file for each photo, and the bigger the memory card required /forums/images/icons/wink.gif 128mb memory would be minimum for usefulness IMHO

As far as my limited knowledge goes you can cut down resolution too make files smaller doesnt have to be maximum all the time. For standard snapshots the resolution can be fairly low and on say an 8mb memory card can get 20 -30 shots on it and still end up with respectable photos

makes sure it has some optical zoom, not digital- never seen a camera where the digital zoom actual looks ok on the final result!

I've just bought a Canon Powershot S400 on e-bay for $399, incl case, card interface and addl 64Mb. It's b----y marvellous.
Anyone want to buy my Canon Rebel SLR w/wide angle, telephoto etc, etc?/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Sounds good, and megapixel camera prices are dropping rapidly. You have to watch out for optical quality on these cheaper deals.

optical quality? you jest I suspect!

At lower resolution thats not an issue so why not just get a nice compact 2 mp camera with a decent lens for around the 100 mark if you are not going to need the ability to crop 10% of a picture and enlarge and print at A3!

However, I do have to admit having bought a sweet little 5mp with 3xoptical and Li ion rechargable yesterday for SWMBOs Christmas present...........shhhhhhhhhh!

I lent my Brother in Law my Fujifilm 1400 zoom to see if he could get on with a digital camera. He thought it was great. He then bought a digital from Lidl's earlier this year for 89 pound and I must say if you put the photos together you would not know which camera they came from and I paid about 300 pound for mine.

Lidl have been selling a NYTECH 4mp camera in Ireland. It's a re-badged toshiba with (so I'm told) a Canon lens. By all accounts it's quite good, though not nearly as compact or good looking as the name brands. However, it's been sold over here (Ireland) for Euro279, so I have to wonder whether there's been a mistake with the £79/£89 price.

Further details

For anyone interested I have now confirmed that the camera is an AIPTEK with 4 megapixels, it comes complete with charger, case, stand, and leads for a cost of £89.99. The camera is available from Lidl stores from next Thursday the 27th Nov 2003.

**Bargain?**
Just looked on google and found this web site selling what seems to be the same or a 1 megapixel less model for an awful lot more e.g. £135 /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

If it is such a bargain I would get to the shop early if you want one!

P.S. I can't seem to find the 4mp one only the 3mp on google, I wonder if it is the 3mp that they are selling that can be enhanced to give the equivelent of 4mp?

Re: Further details

They were selling this in Spainish stores a couple of weeks ago as part of thier Thursday promotions - 149 euros - consistent with the UK price indicated. 199 with a 64mb card package as well i seem to remember.
It does look a good deal.
