35 footer for a newbie?

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions/questions.

I've already realised that a 35 footer won't be big enough so have been looking at the Sealine F42/5, specifically the 3 cabin version.

As this is my first boat I really don't want to spend more than £200k on the boat itself and have seen quite a few older ones at this price point. I'm pretty sure that everyone here is right and that I'll be looking for something bigger in no time if it all works out but I'm deliberately not looking at anything more expensive now so that I don't get tempted. :)

The Med is just a WIBNIF, I'll be perfectly happy tootling round the UK with my first boat.

As for health, I'm as fit as any 43 year old who's spent the last 15 years behind a desk... I couldn't handle a marathon but I'm reasonably in shape. :D

I'm not ashamed to admit that a big part of the purchasing decision is based on looks; I have an image in my head of what my ideal motor boat looks like and the F42 is a definite contender for the budget I can currently justify.

I am also coming round to the idea of chartering a couple of different yachts first once I have some training under my belt, I guess that will depend on whether there are any serious competitors to the F42 that also match my criteria.

A guy at our marina has just bought a Manhattan 50 as his first boat - no previous experience - but its the right boat for him and he has plans similar to yours - UK for a few years then eventually out to the Med.

Wow! This is exactly the reason I don't want to start looking at bigger/better boats as there's no way I could justify spending that sort of dosh on my first one, not unless I win the lottery anyway. :)
