2T oil price.

With 2 cycle oil the main thing is don't use oil for air-cooled engines in water-cooled engines and vice-versa.

One of the main points is the working temp of the oil ... and second environmental ...

TA can be used in Water cooled - but its not advised. TW is the spec.

Using TW in an air cooled though is the worst of the wrong use ... as TW is not designed to handle the higher temp.

But for many years now - there is available general purpose 2T .... which runs fine in both. I have had a Dealer try refuse a warranty after he found out I was using General Purpose 2T in a strimmer that failed - NOT due to oil ... Boy did he get his ears chewed out !!

So :

If you are concerned about 2T use - then TW for water cooled, TA for Air cooled. Don't forget that Yamaha produced a 5hp Air Cooled outboard for many years - and a very good OB it was ..
If you are a not concerned ... as me - then General Purpose is fine.

Comma do a perfectly good mineral 2T, available for most auto factors. my bottle has a price of £8.49 on a barely visible label. I've no idea how long I've had it and it's main use is my strimmer and hedge cutter. My Tohatsu outboard only has fuel in it when I need to use it and part of my routine with it is to empty the tank and run the carb dry every use.

Comma and others similar are OK in 2T form .... but if you were talking engine oil - then I would suggest you do not extend your oil change schedule !!!

Many of the 'low priced' Supermarket oils are a blend of Recon / treated oils with new. They meet the specs - but their life is shorter.

I have a shelf of 2T oils. But I do use the ones for air or watercooled as needed. The prices mentioned are bonkers.. I can get a couple of litres of 2T at my local Carrefour for less than €10.

Going back to the OP, there are very few two stroke vehicles on the road, so the oil is a very slow moving product which makes it expensive to keep on the shelf in a petrol station. Ordering from a wholesaler will be a lot cheaper.

I went into an Inverness Esso station today, and bought 2 green jerry cans of petrol; 1 for my 4T outboard, the 2nd for my 2T Tohatsu 3.5hp. Quick thought was that I'd not brought the 2T oil with me, it was still in the garage. No worries, I'll buy a 1litre bottle here.
At the checkout I was told that the 1litre bottle was £39.46.
"Shurely some mishtake"
Girl at counter, chewing gum, "I don't make the prices mister".
Bottle returned to rack and the prices checked. The cheapest was £26.50.
Think about this for a moment, Esso sell Mobil 2T oil for more than a bottle of any very good malt.
This is getting close to £180 a gallon FFS.
Just saying.
Wow. Prices are crazy.

I must put my 10 litres of "Quick silver"? ... the blue stuff in silver bottles recommended for Mariner oboards iirc up for sale on here some time.

I see scewfix do 1ltr for 8quid, and a 100ml for a fiver. Although the smaller amount is for air cooled garden tool engines.

They don't say if the 1ltr bottle is for air or watercooled engines

Can you explain why?

2T oil price.

TW is formulated to work at typical Water cooled engine temps .... and also is supposed to be better environmentally ..

TA is formulated to withstand typical Air cooled engine temps ...

For many years it has been possible to buy a general use 2T that covers both .... basically things have moved on a bit since the old days !!! But still if you only have choice of TW and TA ... for all water cooled 2stroke O'Bds ... use the TW.

Makes it ideal for our, usually, under used yacht inboards that get annual Oil changes.
